Before I even go into this I need to say this: Read the version that has the Forgotten Secrets Revealed inside. It changed the entire novel. If you've already read it, go back and find one that has this in it and read it. It's extremely important.

I know there's mixed reviews about this but a lot of them come from people not finishing this book. You need to know going into this book that is does not have any of the gladers in it, but going into the book, I had a HUGE suspicion that some of the characters would tie into the characters in The Maze Runner. I'm not going to tell you whether I was right or not, I'm just saying that's what kept me going and I'm glad I finished it.
I was struggling to finish this book because it wasn't interesting me. From the beginning I knew that a lot of characters were going to die, so I already accepted that and it didn't influence me to finish it. Also, Mark is a very flawed character. I got pissed at him so many times for only thinking about how he gets to snuggle up with Trina and not even caring that his entire family was dead. He definitely got better as the novel progresses.
Here are my pros about this book:
Learning about the origin of the Flare and its progression.
The action kept me on the edge on my seat and there was a lot of it
The ending was beautiful.
The Bonus Material: Forgotten Secrets Revealed.
I really enjoyed this book.

JAMES DASHNER WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH U BRO 😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔 the ending made me sob, the book was quite fast paced which was what made me keep going, if the pacing slower i don’t think i would’ve finished it, if ur going to do anything, READ IT FOR THE EDNING.

The book was pretty good, but I'm not too partial to prequels that don't really have a strong tie to the actual series. The set up was there, but the characters weren't. So, I felt like at the end there was a quick nod to a character that features in the actual series but it felt a bit disjointed. Still a decent read, but just not one of my favorites.

I had high expectatives when I started reading this book, because I’ve loved the main trilogy when I read it years ago, and because I thought this new story would cover all the plot holes. Well I jinxed myself with that attitude, because not only doesn’t this book answer the unanswered questions, but it also raises new ones. In all honesty I feel disappointed by this book but I’m going to start with its positive parts. This story is very action packed, so in a way it’s entertaining and easy to read. Also I liked the usage of flashbacks in between chapters to break the action a little and to give us an insight of how it all started. Now for the negative: the action went nowhere. The plot was senseless, I had the impression that most chapters were fillers and that the story could have been reduced to a third of the pages with the same effect. It was also a very simple plot, the typical go from A to B story. The characters weren’t memorable, I found them a bit stereotypical and simple, but well the story didn’t give them the opportunity to be more. Something that truly irked me while reading it’s how some dialogues seemed more like a commentary by a quirky omniscient narrator than a real conversation between two people. So with all, is this a truly horrible book? No, it is a dispensable one? Yes.
