i liked revisiting this universe and think the prequel was necessary but i wasn’t particularly attached to the characters or story and the ending was real sad

I'm not really sure why this is a prequel, and not just the first of a 4-book series...

I really enjoyed the original trilogy but there is nothing worth seeing in this novel. To sum it up, the main characters do something senseless, get attacked, and overcome ridiculous odds by blindly flailing about until the massive hordes are defeated (unless it's a one-on-one fight which take an equally ridiculously long time to win). Seriously, the action in this book is mind numbingly repetitive. And what's with using the main character getting pulled out of the same window in 2 different scenes? Is there some poetic symmetry there? If so, I missed it.

The actual story telling is ok, but this should have been a short story explaining the release of the Flare. So much here is unnecessary and uninteresting. The brief mention of original trilogy characters is contained in the prologue and epilogue and feel cheap. They add nothing to this story, and this story adds precious little to the trilogy

So far, this is my favorite of the Maze Runner series. It has less wacky unexplained technology and less out-of-the-blue plot twists: its just a good story in a post apocalyptic setting. I liked these characters more than I liked any of the ones in the Maze Runner series; they felt more interesting and more real for some reason. The whole book is also a lot darker than the others. There were some dark scenes in the first three books overall, but this book has a lot more and it makes it feel more intense. I’m pretty interested to see where Fever Code goes.

unbearably suffocating and boring. i dont even remember the names of the characters

When I learned about a sequel, I knew I had to get it and read it! I just LOVE getting answers, especially since I haven’t read The Maze Runner trilogy yet and only seen the movies so I had a lot of questions.
Even though the book barely answered any of my questions, it taught me other things about how it all began.
I loved Alec the most out of all the characters, and the way the author doesn’t hide from the horrors of the world is riveting.
A big plus for me: chapters that go back in time and explain events from the past i.e. what happened on day 1 of the disaster.

2.5 stars for me. I could not get past the very weird and unnatural dialogue. Also, there was minimal character development because of everything that was happening. People died that I think we were supposed to be sad about, but I wasn’t because we had not known them that much. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

Despite that, I did have fun reading this book, and I was entertained.
