I gave it 5 stars because it made me laugh. I really like Shira and her snark:

“The plan was to go full dragon and rip them all apart, possibly feast on their corpses and pick my teeth with their bones.”

She is murderous for good reason but is also very diplomatic in knowing that others won’t understand and so she is just going to go get it done on her own!

Her mates are clueless and I can appreciate her not just falling into their arms. It’s a very interesting story with Fae and Goblins, all working for the greater good

I love the heroine in this book. She really forces her heroes to examine their choices and grow. The setup of the romance is different because she spends a lot of the book separated from her guys, after spending time with them at the beginning. This works so well!

The book has some really funny moments and the character/world building are all fantastic!

Slowburn RH

What a cliffhanger to end on! I’m immediately grabbing book two and starting it tonight though, but if it wasn’t out yet I would be devastated.

So first off, Shira is a wonderful character. She’s traumatized and fierce and very cunning. And deserves the world to be honest.

Her mates? Eh. I still dislike Ezra the most, hopefully he redeems himself in the second book. The other guys are all pretty decent and I’m looking forward to the upcoming character development in the second book.

Just to make it clear: this is a world where women have less power and less say in their lives. This can be triggering for some, so be mindful of that. The writing is good and the story is great. It may be slow for some readers until about 60% in but give it a chance. It’s well worth the read!

Oh and no spice in this one at all. That should be coming in book two!

decent

This is a book centered around expectations, the good, the bad, the absurd - it’s a well done look, crafted around a plot that grows a touch thicker as more characters are introduced.

It is, however, a bit rough in places, loping along in staggering stops and starts. Fortunately, that moments are few.

MMMFMM, RH PRN. Slow burn / glacial if you expect action in the first book. We get a kiss, which is nice, but the author is respecting the characters trauma by not introducing it too soon.

1) zero smut
2) pushover mc until 60% of the book
3) controlling males
4) cliffhanger

Starting dragging towards the center, just waiting for the main event of the cliffhanger - but it all came to such a satisfying conclusion in the second book, it was worth it. I do feel the duet could have been one book but appreciated the time taken with character development.

2/5 starts - PNR RH - Warning: Cliffhanger- Shira is enslaved for 8 to the dragons who murdered her family then sold to the Fae, to be rescued 4 years later by her mates only for them to imprison her within their den. She has sworn revenge and will do whatever it takes to achieve it even if it means her death. This book is mostly a set-up before all the action (which will hopefully happen in the next one), so there is not much action of any kind. It is mostly running and arguing that happens, beyond that... ehh.

Shira is nothing if not a strong main character with an unbending will to achieve her goals — and yet she holds many flaws. What a refreshingly different story.
