I adored McNicholl's previous novels, but this one just didn't work for me. I felt the book tried to cram too many ideas into one book. The pacing was off and I kept getting jolted out of the story. Things would happen,  or characters would appear, out of nowhere; I kept having to go back and reread to make sure I hadn't missed something. I loved Ramya -- but, in general, I felt the characters and their relationships were represented inconsistently. I wanted to love this book, and even feel it has some beautiful nuggets, but it just didn't come together for me.
