There's something about this book that I really enjoy--I think it's Maia's kindness and humility.
Also, I greatly enjoy what I call "something of manners", especially when it is combined with another genre (like this one, which is fantasy + something of manners).
Note: although this book is occasionally tagged as "steampunk", it's only part of the background (a few items are described as being steampowered; there are airships).

I re-read this recently as an audiobook and fell in love all over again. I wanted there to be SO MUCH MORE. I hope Katherine Addison continues to write more in this world because I love the style of writing and the worldbuilding and that KINDNESS WINS.

This book feels at times like it's going sooooo slow and at other I couldn't put it down for it was really interesting.
