Well written, entertaining fantasy. Addison has created a very cool universe. Not only a cool universe, but compelling character development. We follow the young, exiled half goblin Maia, ostracized son of the emperor, as he is thrust into the emperorship when the royal family dies in a airship crash. Totally ignorant of court etiquette and politics and woefully under educated in the skills of statesmenship, Addison gives us a good coming of age story. Can't wait to read more by Addison.

This Lord of the Rings meets regency era court! Nothing extraordinary happened and yet the story flowed like a beautiful song. I have never met a more pleasant and admirable main character as Maia, I felt like his friend the entire time.

A cozy read. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Maia is a breath of fresh air in a world filled with morally grey characters.

This was a wonderful book, really a pleasure to read. Well written and immersive, I loved how you the reader immediately connected with how lost Maia felt becoming emperor and having no context with all the history and names being thrown around as neither of us had the necessary education to know what was going on. Also, the recurring theme of your crippling self doubt and anxiety driving you to kindness and deliberate, researched "accidentally" good decision making hit very close to home. The themes of abuse and growth and learning to trust were handled well, and I enjoyed watching the plot unfold and getting to know so the characters. This was great.

A perfect political intrigue. I was fascinated and engaged by the world building and Maia was such a loveable main character. I devoured this book in about two days and I can't wait to read it again
