Had to read it for school, it is not what i usually read but it’s not that bad. Plus, the plot is very interesting

Not my favorite Zola. A good thriller and fun to read in Paris, but it just don’t hold a candle to his later novels.

Kate Winslet's narration is the way to go for this one.

While I understand that this is a classic for its preface concerning Zola's naturalism, the book is...boring. The characters are uninteresting. The story is not shocking nowadays. Really, it's not worth reading.
