4.25 stars, it’s been a while since I’ve read YA fantasy and this one was very good. The world building was a bit confusing at times but once it fully clicked it was fascinating. Especially loved revisiting the memories of Bree’s ancestors, drawing on their strength when needed, and the focus on grief and healing. Not sure if I’ll get into the next book, I find it harder to connect to the teen romance that is often woven through these YA books and I smell a love triangle starting up- and I hate those- but I’m really glad I picked this one up.

After her mother dies, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews enrolls in a residential program at UNC–Chapel Hill, hoping to escape her grief. Her first night on campus, she witnesses a magical attack by a flying demon and discovers a secret society of "Legendborn" students who hunt such creatures. A mage attempts to erase her memory but instead unlocks her own hidden magic and a buried memory that ties a Merlin to her mother's death.

Determined to uncover the truth, Bree infiltrates the Legendborn with the help of Nick, a self-exiled member. As they delve deeper, Bree learns the society's members are descendants of King Arthur's knights and are preparing for a magical war. Bree must decide whether to use her powers to dismantle the society or join their fight.

Thoughts: Great story!! Struggled learning all the names, but when I got it, it really took off!
