Liked this quite a lot! Probably more 4.5 than 5 stars, but whatever. It's well-written, definitely different (in a good way), has a really unusual take on dragons, the main character is smart and proactive (with some not-unrealistic negative traits), and the plot is compelling and turns in unpredictable ways. Also, I thought the romance was a lot more grown-up (as in realistic, not sexy) than most of what's popular in YA these days. I'm really looking forward to the sequel(s).
Took me about 50 pages to really get into this; but once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. There author does some excellent world building and I love
all the main characters. They each bring something different to the story, and I really enjoyed spending time with them. The ending was a bit too abrupt and schmaltzy for my tastes, but I still look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Actual rating: 4.5 stars. This has definitely become a favorite. It will be a little while before I can write my Goodreads review, alas, but it will come.

In this fascinating and imaginative world of shape-shifting dragons we meet Seraphina. Seraphina is a prickly, but kind heroine, who has just joined the court as a music assistant. When a member of the royal family is murdered, suspicion turns to dragons and the fragile peace between humans and dragons is threatened. Seraphina must uncover the truth before war erupts while protecting her own secrets. The book takes its time to build the characters and the world, but it rewards the reader with a highly detailed setting. If you enjoy dragons and fantasy reads, you'll enjoy this inventive tale. -Jennifer W.O.-
Very intersting perspective of dragons, I really enjoyed the book and its settings even though there was something missing in it that I can't put my finger on... Quite intruiging and complex read anyway:)
3.3 ☆☆☆
Oh gosh another one I don't know what to do with. It was good. It had an interesting plot, the world building was intricate, it was funny at some points and I couldn't stop reading especially when I reached the last third. And yet...I didn't love it.
I can't even say I liked it a whole lot.
And usually when a book ticks all these boxes I at least want to go and read the sequel.
With this I don't.
I don't even think I want to keep it.
So, I don't know I'm still giving it 4 stars, but my heart wasn't in it.
[EDIT: You know what, I feel like a 3☆ sums it up the best so there we go.]

Unique take on the dragon as a character book. You'll find that the dragons in this book are not your usual large beasts. Recommend to everyone who is tired of the traditional dragon story and needs something new.
