While the story is really interesting and well written...ya romance puts me off.... Everything else was really great though!
Although I struggled to get through the first 150 pages, the remaining story was enthralling. I am looking forward to seeing we're Phina's adventures and romance will take her. The story offers insight to though provoking ideas about love and self image. Through the guise of fantasy, the author touches on historical-like situations and issues we have struggled with for centuries.
This book came on my radar thanks to a book blog I read fairly regularly and I'm glad it did! I had never heard of this series but as fantasy novels - especially ones involving dragons - tend to be right up my alley I was excited to dive in.
The mysterious elements of the plot kept me guessing until the very end and there was even a reveal I had been in no way expecting - I love when this happens as I'm usually pretty good at guessing at this kind of plot twist. The main characters were also wonderfully endearing and the light romance was just enough to have me swooning over the "will-they-won't-they" tension.
I did find it hard to keep track of the many different titles people were given by individuals from different nations but this definitely added to the world building and would likely be less confusing had I read a physical copy instead of listened to an audiobook.
However, despite some confusion, the magic system and description of dragon society and its complexities were so well done and unlike anything I have ever read. I looked forward to every single listening session which helped keep me awake during my daughter's many late night feeding sessions. I can't wait to read the second one!

A rather disappointing book. The main character was far too placid and accepting in my opinion, though she was chastised for being prickly quite often. Sadly her inner monologue painters her in a cowardly and untrusting light.
The ending was particularly displeasing. While I dont need romances to work out, this book would have been FAR better without the romance. It was distracting and incredibly unappealing.
The dragons were interesting, but the entire dynamic reminded me of the [a:Nalini Singh|71688|Nalini Singh|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1288454777p2/71688.jpg] Psy/changeling series that I had a hard time taking it very seriously.
Worth skipping.

Interesting concept, having dragons shift into humans and experience all of our messy human emotions, relationships, and problems! I enjoyed this adventure. It was borderline too political for me, especially the first few chapters. I wished the action could have started sooner, but I pushed through and read the book until the end. I would recommend to others having a difficult time starting this book to keep going too. It's worth it at the end. Not a typical "fairy tale" either, not even wrapped up neatly at the end! This tale boggled my mind, but it was fun and intense.
Seraphina is both fantasy and mystery with a small amount of romance. It's an entirely new world with entirely new ideas about dragons. I would have given this five stars had I not started to get a little bit bored toward the middle. This book is awesome and the end was awesome.
Pros: Fun plot, enjoyable characters, and the dragons are super interesting.
Cons: The romance seemed to develop a little too quickly, but not horribly so.
Apparently I read this book back in 2013 but then never read the sequel. I remembered only the barest details, so rediscovering the plot twists and being surprised by them was fun.

All the elements are there but somehow... I was really bored with this one. The way she wrote the dragons was pretty interesting, but our protagonist herself was not all that great. Too bad, I've been wanting to read this one forever.

This was hard to read. The plot was interesting but the writing style was confusing, and the world building was lacking in places. When you create a whole new religion, geography, etc., it needs to be explained, and I found myself having to infer certain details (e.g., “Ardmagar” is a title like Chief). I did discover a glossary at the end of the ebook which maybe would have helped had it been at the beginning.
All in all, it felt like I was trudging through to the end. I did not DNF because I did want to see the plot play out.
