I plowed through the first half of this book, I was just fascinated by this self-aware baby whose patron saint is the Heretic, and grows into this half-dragon misfit girl who struggles to emote normally as a human. Something about the story really grabbed me right away! Then when Seraphina is agonizing more about having to lie to people, and mooning over a boy and stuff, it lost some of its inertia for me. She started off this aloof dragon girl and ended up more of a bumbling adolescent. Still a great story and she's still a great character! But she just became too ordinary all of a sudden.

Books about amazing music irritate me a bit. WRITING about MUSIC-- it just seems to be the wrong format. Even when I read manga, wonderful music can be expressed well but in words I'm basically just being told "and it was the best song ever." That doesn't really hack it for me. Just kind of a pet peeve.

No idea when I found and read Seraphina.
I loved it and its unique (to me) take on dragons.
It’s been too long ago that I don’t remember much of the specifics, and it seems my hard cover copy must have been lent out to someone, because I can’t put my hands on it now to refresh my memory.

“How dare the world be beautiful when I was so horrifying?”

Oh wow, this is truly a beautiful and wondrous story. A new take on dragons that's entirely original and told in such a breathtaking way that it will cling to your mind for a long while. It's a story that has it all, an outstanding cast of characters and compelling story line. It contains mystery, action, humor, bittersweet romance and friendship, each in equal balance.

I loved everything about this, an incredible fantasy, utterly breathtaking. The characters were flawless, you either loved them or loved to hate them each one was so independently entertaining it's hard not to love them all. From Seraphina the incredibly brave heroine, to Prince Lucian Kiggs heartthrob and hero to Orma.. can i just say how much i loved Orma? I do hope he gets more page time in the next book!

I didn't know much about Seraphina before i started reading it, just the blurb and i am so happy that i went into it spoiler free! It beat my expectations into the ground! Therefore i will not go into the plot i will only say that i cannot say enough good words about this book and highly recommend this to all, not just lovers of fantasy but to all book lovers.

Hartman's writing style is captivating and uniquely beautiful, all i can do not is wait for Shadowscale, the second installment to the series, as patiently as i possibly can, my fingers are itching for it!

“We were all monsters and bastards, and we were all beautiful

Richly textured fantasy that I loved even if it got a little dense at times, with a brilliant protagonist. Full review forthcoming at www.slatebreakers.com

The best dragon charachters and psychology I have ever read or heard about! I have not read much of this kind of fantasy in a while but I am really glad I picked this up. All of the classic fantasy elements are represented, however, the ways in which they are used is quite ingenious. Don't let the length put you or teens you may be recommending it to off at all; it reads quickly and the pacing is really well done as are the charachters and world-building. I completely understand how and why this book won the William C. Morris. I can't wait for more, though this can also stand alone quite well.

Great (truly great!) characters, a unique take on dragons, a fully-formed (and not explained-to-death) culture, interesting conflicts to settle, and tackling important issues - what's not to like? Reading this kindle book was very enjoyable.

So good! Once I got over that 100 page hump, everything just flew into place. Full review to come.

This book was breathtaking. It was so beautiful. The language was just flowery enough to pique my interest and prompt several visits to my dictionary, which I enjoy. I appreciate a young adult book in which everything doesn't hinge on whether or not the main characters fall in love. That being said, fall in love they did, and it was wonderful. It was one of the best young adult books I've ever read. Simply enchanting.

me siento una vieja diciendo libros de fantasía eran los de antes!!!!! (tampoco es tan viejo igual)
