Dragons, half-breeds, religion and romance. A great combination! Seraphina's voice and character traits are strong and engaging. There were many many voices in this book and I found myself disappointed that a few of them were weak.

Still as great as the first time I read it. 100% recommend if you like medieval fantasy with dragons, outcast main characters, found family and court intrigue. If you expect the romance aspect to be a big part in the story you might be disappointed. It’s a subplot but I’d say it’s 15% of the story compared to the 85% plot
Perhaps since it's not my usual genre, it took a while to get into this one, but once I did, I found it unputdownable at times. I like the universe the author has created, and her characters face all the usual trials - prejudice, war, social stigma, and a little self-harm thrown in for good measure. It is a YA book, after all. Fortunately, there's a bit of humor as well. Will read the next one when it comes out.

Fucking superb. I screamed too much on a buddy read and don't know how to summarise it all for a neat review here. But in short I had a GREAT time with Seraphina and the gang, and C.Paolini was bang on with his cover quote; these really ARE some of the most interesting dragons I've ever met!!

I really enjoyed the imaginative world-building in this one! The protagonist was likeable and there is fodder for more intrigue in later books. If you like dragons and mystery, then give'r!
