Was really entertaining at parts and just my style. My only issues was that during some of the duller parts it was hard to focus while listening to the audiobook. But I do love a 19th century British tale that sprawls over many pages and this gave me what I wanted!
funny mysterious reflective

A historical fiction set in an imagined history wherein magic was a common profession that has become lost. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell set out to restore magic to England, only a whole world of intrigue unfolds as they involve themselves with an evil fairy. Though I don't think I was satisfied in the end after two months and 850 pages, I found this impressive and I was intrigued enough to see it through to the finish. Clarke does a great job of mimicking the tone of early 19th century novels, while including footnotes of legends and tales that read as though academic, all the while creating curious incidents within each chapter that compel the reader enough to keep going. I would recommend this book to any patient reader who enjoys fantasy.

The book went on far longer than it needed to I think. I liked the ending but as
Arabella said - the argument between Strange and Norell should have only lasted a month

Armitage’s narration is excellent but I couldn’t hack hearing Gaiman reading the footnotes- I will read the book on paper instead.

So boring. 1006 pages of the most boring book with magic in it that I’ve ever read.
