The best book I have ever read! I expected the ending but was also very surprised at the fine details. It was just enough of a thriller that I had goosebumps but could still fall asleep. Lol 10/10

In 1982 Viv Delaney runs away from home. Setting out for New York City, she ends in upstate New York, in the small town of Fell. Instead of breaking into acting, she gets a job as night clerk at an out-of-the way roadside motel, dealing with truckers and hookers and...ghosts. In 1982 Viv Delaney disappears, another missing woman among many.

In 2017 Carly Kirk goes looking for the aunt she never knew. She follows Viv to Fell, to the motel, and finds the same ghosts waiting for her.

This was a creepy, intense, jarring read. I'm often annoyed by dual timelines, but St. James did a great job of using the device to build up tension and dread. The hauntings were terrifying. I definitely didn't start reading this after dark and regret my choices. Nope. The ending was a bit rushed, but I will definitely be reading more by this author.

So good! Having the story unfold through the two perspectives made it a great page turner, but what I truly appreciated was how female centered it was and it truly captured that aspect that most women feel, "yes, no one takes me seriously because I'm a girl, but I don't care, I'm going to push forward because this is bigger than me."
