Loved it, loved it, loved it. When is next one being published???!!
It angers me a bit that the world is still talking about Twilight, when there's this amazing series out there, trying to (not so) subtlety warns us of the way we're going and how humanity continues to make the same mistakes over and over again. Still, not judging, to each its own. But this book definitely deserves more attention. It's amazing, the characters are amazing, and you don't even realize it's 500 pages long until you're finished. And yet, you want to know more.

Actual rating : 3.8/5
This has gotten like 150% better than the first book.
During the start of the book I was like, "What The Fudge am I reading?" then after awhile it totally made sense. Jumping from past and present was different from other books wherein dual timelines are used to tell the story. Here it is more like the timelines are sort of parallel to each other.
Anyways... there were lots of question answered but there were additional questions added.
Cliffhanger ending for the win!
Down side : Where is Marguerite? I was hoping for more of her in this book cause she seemed like a strong female character on the first.

i am uncomfortable with how the demon spirit is being tied to the main character's sexuality and making super dumb choices she seemed smart enough to avoid in the first book.
I didn't like the Lily sections. I wanted more of badass Kelsea
WARNING: This isn't a review so much as it is a rant about how offensive and insulting this book is. If you loved it, that's your prerogative. Me? I'd rather gargle rusty thumbtacks than finish this self-righteous pile of spew.
The first book was so great. The second? What the hell happened? Did Johansen think she had to push some preachy bullshit agenda in her fiction writing? 'Cause there's no quicker way to ruin a good story than to shoehorn Tumblr's Favorite Morals that all the bleeding heart nutcases want the rest of us to care about but we're too sick of being lectured to give a crap, into your story. If I wanted to be lectured by the self-appointed high priests of social morality, I'd read Salon or Slate. I wouldn't read fantasy fiction that turns out to be merely parading as a sermon meant to beat you over the head with a political message. Life's too short to waste on books that treat you like a brain-dead idiot.
I give the book credit - it fooled me into thinking it was worthwhile enough that I got through the first third before I totally wanted the chuck the damn thing across the room out of sheer frustration. I guess I had higher hopes from a series that I so thoroughly enjoyed at the beginning. It reminds me of how I felt after reading Divergent - the first book was great, the second was a disappointment. But this one was even worse for some reason. Unlike the Divergent series where I did finish the whole thing, I'm not coming back to this one. It's insulting and obnoxious and I have no desire to waste my precious time on fiction that treats me like a complete imbecile.
So. Over. It.

DNF at 25%. Not rating as I didn't finish and tbh just have no opinion here. Marking as read as I feel like I spent enough time with it to give it a fair shot but,,,, these books just aren't for me at all.
