started off a little rocky, overall was pretty boring, but ultimately i didn't hate this?
i will say though, i do not at all understand why the author thought it was a good idea to not tell us what the fuck the Ruined are/do. i mean i guess we know they have magic but what a weird choice. and also the point in the narrative where this story starts? i appreciate the lack of info dumping but there is something to be said for decent exposition which was definitely missing.

Entertaining, lots of action, and a bloody cliff hanger at the end. So happy to be able to support a local author!

To be honest this novel was at times hard to follow and slow paced at other times. I'm still confused about certain aspects which may be answered in following novels, but for the first one it seemed almost incomplete. It wasn't too bad, but I would be okay not reading it. I won't be continuing in the series.

So here's the weird thing about Ruined - it reminded me a whole lot of Red Queen (which I disliked), and yet somehow I thought it was absolutely amazing!
When I first started it, I wasn't a fan of how it literally jumped straight into the action. Where was the little bit of explaining that would help me understand these people? But a few chapters in, I didn't care - I understood exactly what was going on, and I was glad Tintera hadn't stopped to explain before launching into the story. It made everything better.
This just shot to my top ten favourites list. I can't wait for the next one!

This is the first book in a series. I have no desire to read the next book. It's a typical fantasy world where the wrong girl falls in love with the wrong boy. I'm sure some teens will love this one but it did nothing for me.
