A taboo romance between a young women and a man about 15 years older. Their story starts when she was only 16 years old. The present time is set nine years later. There are flashbacks to the early years. It's written strictly from her POV. There is so much humor. This girl is sassy and a bit of a smart alleck. There's a lot of sarcasm as well, mostly within her internal thoughts. It's quite a fun read, though there are plenty of moments that the guy (and her on occasion) will frustrate you. There's a lot of push and pull between them. Usually she's doing the pulling and he's pushing. Her character is pretty smart, even if she often does things she probably shouldn't. He comes across as kinda a jerk at times, but we also can see him struggling with his emotions. The sex scenes are pretty hot, and don't worry, it happens after she's of consenting age. (Book is for mature readers.) All round, it's a good fun story that has great characters, and of course a Happily Ever After ending.

I was excited to see that my library had another Kylie Scott audiobook! I am not a rock star person, but I loved stage dive and the premise of this one really grabbed me. I really want to love this book, but I hate to say it fell a bit short. Mostly I don’t think we got to see the good in Pete much. He never confronted his feelings, not really. We never got a sense of when he started caring for Adele. Then he pushes her into the settling to come in and refuse it in the end. Idk it didn’t add up. Which was so too bad because I wanted to like him and loved the broody older guy man whore thing he had going, maybe getting some of his perspective would have helped? But I never warmed to him. I also thought the plot was pretty thin. So yeah, there were moments I enjoyed, but overall a little disappointed. I will keep reading Kylie though!

Such a good book! I’m not usually one for age gap romances but I like how this one was done. I’ve read several books by this author now and all I can say is every single one has been amazing! I’d say anything by this author is a must read.

This just didn’t do it for me. I actually was turned off by the relationship of Pete and Adele. I had a very hard time believing that a 30 year old guy and a 15 year old girl would be best friends hanging out at the beach and movies and that her dad was ok with that. Even 8 years later, Adele was very immature and Pete seemed like he didn’t get any wiser with age either.

So what gets my goats? Well a lot of things if I am being honest with you but more to the point there are a few no brainer, insta-buy, no questions asked type of synopsis that I get grabby hands. First off, I like a little taboo, so if there is an age difference I can tell you right now I love these types of tropes, though I understand many people cringe with these types of dynamics, if done tasteful I personally find them the most appealing. Secondly, some type of authority figure, which goes back to the ago gap I suppose, but I love an authority figure type dynamic and lastly some type of drama inflicted romance between two people where either friends or family is most definitely affected.

Case in point: It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time.

I honestly had a huge book boner for the main characters; really I won’t deny that! Adele is a breath of fresh air. She is young and lively. I honestly think she has this amazingly fresh, wildly presence yet still grounded personality. Her sarcasm is hilariously entertaining plus her ability to just flat out give honesty is just… it is down right perfection.

What I liked most about Adele is the relatble scenario of her personality and her connection towards Pete. We’ve all had that young, schoolkid crush on our much older ‘someone’ special, I know I did. It is actually quite natural for a younger individual to crush on an older person because there are specific points in our love patterns that start to develop our ‘types’ of person. That is really what Pete was for Adele. And it is so believable because getting the snippets of the past verses themselves in their current situation really aids on how their dynamic was chemistry wise. Now don’t get me wrong, even though I absolutely adored Adele there were many of times when her quirky, out spoken personality needed to tone it down, but nonetheless I really appreciated her characters dynamic.

And speaking of the heartthrob of delicious man meat… oh Pete. I really enjoyed Pete. Though admittedly so, at first he slightly irked me. He had this amazingly sexy presence yet he was a bit of a jerk. Grumbling, not forming words, his ability to not acknowledge this hovering issue between himself and Adele. But with Pete, he really kind of grew on me as the plot started to develop. His passive aggressiveness was slightly a turn on.

I said it before, I will say it again, because of their history, the clash of their personalities they had such a phenomenal, really passionate chemistry that just screamed tension and angst feels. Both struggling to come to terms with moving forward while finding themselves back in their own cocoon. It was sweet development until it turned loin gushing hot. And I mean… HOT HOT HOT.

This is also, in my opinion one of the many times when an age gap develops correctly sort of speak. Pete was not entirely attracted to Adele when she was a younger teenager. I mean, he admits he had eyes but honestly he liked the friendship he had between Adele and himself rather than feeling romantic connection towards her, even when she was eighteen. Now fast forward to the present, obviously this switches when he realizes what a babe she grew into with age, not only that but her confidence, she is slightly an enigma to him. Generally when I read these types of tropes I like having some type of attraction level between the couple prior to getting to the future, really to avoid that less believable situation that ‘oh, were adults now and you are totally scrumptious‘ kind of scenarios. But honestly I liked how this one went from past to present, there really had to be a build on the chemistry that for Pete was not previously there.

I will also admit there is a particular point that irks me. Although I love the pacing, the bickering tension filled moments between Pete and Adele and up to the point that they redevelop their friendship and mutual attraction, there becomes a point where it felt rushed. It had this amazing build, the dynamics were kickass but then it started to rush in almost anti-climatic domino effect. It actually is kind of why if you talk to me I might chat about how I was on the fence with the rating. I loved so much yet at this point it really almost deterred me overall.

Definitely a spectacular read. It had a tasteful, beautifully paced flare about the entire storyline that had me hooked with the first page. I honestly could not get enough of Pete and Adele. I honestly beguiled by their entire romance. The little snippets of their past, how their friendship really developed and then the growth to how they are while being adults – it was intense, beautiful and entertaining.

Disappointing 2*. Much like a meal that looks great, smells great but tastes bland, this was totally meh. I didn't feel the H's love and the h, bless her, seemed to have convinced herself that he does so I guess that's all that counts. Usually such characters make me want to rant, yet I can't drum up any emotion. Apart from some humour this was lacking any depth of emotion.
