Probably a 3.5 for me— the writing itself and the audiobook narrator were the best part of this book, but I found the characters to be quite frustrating (mostly the hero) If a 40yr old man is *this* emotionally immature and commitment phobic, I can’t image anything that could even tempt me to accept him. He’s a little indecisive scared shithead for 90% of this book and I just wanted the heroine to leave him the whole time
The two protagonists were so immature it made it almost impossible to enjoy this story. I forgot that the hero was 15 years older than the heroine. He seemed to be in the same headspace (i.e., life arena, whatever you will, etc.) as the heroine that it shocked me when I was reminded halfway through the story that he was 40 and she 25. While that situation isn't entirely unrealistic, I felt that he lacked too much substance as a character to make me believe that he was that immature.
**Spoilers**
But in the end, her love and their child healed him, and he finally grew up.
I'm getting real tired of trudging through romance titles and finding myself more often disappointed than content.

Throwing in a random tragic backstory isn't enough to convince me that he is this emotionally immature. "His mother died from cancer, and his father has been a jerk to his kids ever since, and that is why he keeps every woman he dates at a distance." Good God, the cancer trope is getting old. His mom dealing with that disease wasn't even integrated into the story. It was randomly thrown in there, and the main focus was on the way his dad treated him after. Even that was treated as if it should be enough to excuse his angsty behavior, as opposed to (IDK) processing his grief and healing like a healthy person. But in the end, her love and their child healed him, and he finally grew up.

I enjoy Kylie Scott's books and this one was no exception. Swoony, sexy, and just enough predictable drama to keep things interesting, Adele and Pete's story was a delightful three hour reading experience on a Thursday night.
The ending was such a let down. Overall a good NA book
This romance was very ehh to me like I love Kylie Scotts writing and her dialogue is hilarious. Yet these characters just seemed like they shouldn't be together.
Another 5-star book from Kylie Scott.
This book for me is well written and does not hold back in relation to the forbidden romance storyline. I could not put this down and I was enthralled from the 1st few pages and my love for this book continued to grow from there. I enjoyed the way the author does not sugar coat truths that are interwoven within the story. For me, this was a forbidden love story done well. I loved Adele and Pete and the forbidden love that grows between them. Adele, Pete and her family at the beginning are trying to mend old wounds that were created by Adele. I love Adele’s family dynamic and her relationship with her soon be a mother in law Shanti. Shanti and Adele’s best friend Hazel throughout the story is the only help keep the other adults level headed when they struggled to remain calm. This also had for me had great smutty scenes.
If you are a fan of Kylie Scott’s Stage Series and the standalone novel Trust, then you are going to love this one.
