Adele left home almost a decade to go to get away from the heartache and embarrassment that would undoubtedly be waiting for her once she returned. Now she's back for her father's wedding and of course, luck was on her side when she is faced with staying with the man who had a part in her leaving. Pete is fifteen years older than her and someone who she realized at the age of eighteen that he was more than just a best friend and her dad's business partner. Unfortunately for her, she had misread the signs she'd thought he'd given her and threw herself at him only for him to get caught in the blame and the mess that was the aftermath.
Now, years later, he still holds a grudge and she is trying to deny that what she felt at eighteen is still there. Pete is cold with her from the moment she arrives and after finally making it clear that she is sick of it, they call a truce. As the wedding plans unfold and Pete and Adele spend more time together, Pete begins to see that she is no longer the child he once considered her. However, she is still the daughter of his best friend, making her off limits still. But when you're forced to spend as much time together, your control is tested and you begin to feel more open to what you've tried so hard to push away.
Listen, I love me some Kylie Scott. The Stage Dive and Dive Bar series are fabulous and fun and I love them.
Didn't love this one.
I don't even know how much I liked it?
I'm not a massive fan of big age differences. I can read them and just get over it, and I ended up doing that with this one, but I still feel like that judgment lingered a little bit. That's totally a me thing though, I need to get over it. BUT I felt like it was worth mentioning because that's where this kinda started for me.
Anyways, I actually enjoyed the first half of the book. I liked Adele and her attitude of not taking anyone's shit. She told off Pete right from the get-go and I loved that. She literally told him to go fuck himself and I've just about died over it because like YES GIRL, YOU TELL HIM! So, it was a strong start. Then Pete lightened up and they tried to be friends and that made me enjoy the story more too. I liked that they tried first instead of just jumping each other and seeing where that got them. BUT. BUT. BUT. I did NOT like the end of this book. It made me so mad and when I tried to turn to get to more of the book and realized it was done..... UGH.
This is a spoiler and I'm not sensoring it, so just skip over or stop reading if you want. When Adele goes home and realizes she's pregnant I was screaming internally. I knew where this was going. He was going to pop his head back in (which he literally did) and propose that she come home with him and they can talk it through. I get it, a child is now in the picture so you have to grow up, but Adele seemed to forget the way their fight went that sent her home to begin with. So that was problem number one. Problem number two was him proposing pERIOD. LITERALLY turned around on their date where they were trying to work out their issues and proposes. It didn't feel like a happy ending. It felt like, hey... I got you pregnant and I like you enough to get married but OH by the way, I love you.
He literally just took five steps in their relationship and rolled it into one thirty minute conversation. I wasn't happy with this. At all. So the ending turned it from a four star to a three. I was thinking of even 2.5 but I feel like that's too low. I did like it for the most part and FINISHED it, so three is good enough. I was truly just not expecting what this book ended up being and I'm disappointed. Like I said, I love Kylie Scott so much, so this will do literally nothing to affect my feelings for her writing. But I think it just wasn't what I expected of it and it made me sad.
Also, the real savior for me was Shanti. I loved her supportive self and loved her, even more, when she was actually a great person, and didn't make it awkward for Adele even though they'd just met. She genuinely wanted a relationship with Adele and was just a kind-hearted person.... so she was definitely a plus in the grand scheme of things.
I'd love to know how other people felt about this. Maybe I can be swayed if I understand someone else's take on this. If this is your first book by Kylie and you feel the same as me, PLEASE do not give up on her. Go read Lick!! It's one of my favourite books ever but also specifically of hers. Read the Stage Dive series first though.

I've never read any of this author's books before so when this one came up for review I jumped at the chance to.
The cover and blurb got my interest going aswell.
Starting this book I did enjoy it but I found it hard to connect to the characters.
We see past and present throughout the book, the build up to Adele being sent away after her 18th birthday party when very wrong.
I felt that Adele hadn't aged any in the 7 years she had been away. Her attitude and personality hadn't matured which was very disapointing.
I really wanted to like Pete, he was this hot older guy. But he was very immature with his atitude towards Adele and their relationship that they started up. I was expecting a lot more from him. He seemed to jump between his emotions and didn't know what he wanted out of any of his relationships with women.
I feel like the only reason Pete got back together with Adele was because of their little surprise at the end of the book. I honestly don't believe he would of wanted to otherwise.
I didn't feel the chemistry between these 2 throughout the book and that ruined it for me.
I really enjoyed the last 5% of the book, it felt like that was what the story was meant to be like to whole time and it just got dragged out a bit too much.
I loved Adele's stepmother, Shanti. She was everything that you would want in a stepmother, someone that is fun and supportive.
I'm interested to read the author's others books and to see if they are different to this one.

The reason I am giving this book such a high rating is because of Adele. Adele was funny and honest and brave and willing to take a chance on a man who was mostly unworthy of her until the very end of the story.
Honestly, I wanted to shake some sense into Peter most of the time, but I did enjoy the story overall and like I said, Adele deserves five stars and a HEA. I love a happy ending, but I would have liked Peter to grovel a bit more.
That being said, Kylie Scott is a fantastic writer and I will definitely check out more of her writing in the future.

Massive spoilers in this review proceed with caution.
Adele had a huge teenage crush on Pete, one of her dad's employees, even though he's far older than she. When she turned 18 some booze and a flash of boobs ruined her friendship with Pete, almost lost him his job, and turned her into a big huge joke.
Flash forward six years later, and Adele is returning to her dad's hometown to participate in his wedding. And she has to stay with Pete. Adele's now into one night stands, casual dating, and lots of sex. She's determined she won't let her past mistake with Pete ruin her vacation but he's a total jerk as soon as she arrives. Plus, now her dad wants her to join his and Pete's building company, and Pete doesn't seemed thrilled about it.
As Adele finds out, Pete is actually attracted to her "now that she's a woman" and they eventually hookup. Pete handles it poorly, but after some conversation they decide to give it a go. Until Adele's dad again catches them...
Pete can't decide what he wants, so Adele leaves with maybe just a little more than a broken heart...
Ugh. I was intrigued by this forbidden, May-December, "I'm super into my dad's friend," romance but found myself very annoyed. I was intrigued enough to finish but I could just not get over how awful Pete was. He's in his late 20s (I think?) when he starts "hanging out" with Adele as a 16 year old. Pete basically fills in for her dad who is too busy to take her places when she stays with him for six weeks each summer, okay, but wierd her dad has no issue with this or their "best friendship" that develops. Pete also takes Adele on his dates to prevent his dates from thinking he wants more? Gross.
The entire story is in Adele's 1st person POV, which made me hate Pete even more because I could never tell what he was thinking. He was drunk when they finally had sex and leaves her alone on the floor to sleep in his room, but then is confused at why she is crying and leaving the next day? Gross. He refuses to define his relationship with her, refuses to discuss his feelings, and sends mixed messages.
And then the story had to take the freaking pregnancy route. There is no sufficient groveling from Pete, who handles being caught by Adele's father while going down on her very poorly. Adele does make him 'date' her for like two seconds before agreeing to just be with him to raise their baby, but overall I just didn't buy it. There was no chemistry between the two and this story either needed to veer more into kinky "daddy" territory or utilize the age gap in a different way. I just didn't buy their love.
For all of this, I did like Adele's character. She wasn't some innocent, blushing virgin who was swayed by some creep. She went after what she wanted, I just felt bad who she wanted didn't deserve her.

Hilarious, a bit heartbreaking, full of sass and, at its essence, uplifting. Kylie Scott’s It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time was a powerhouse unputdownable novel that brought out ALL the feels in this reader.
I’m still a novice when it comes to Kylie Scott’s work but I think even if I had read her whole backlog of books, this would still be my favorite. Mainly because Adele. Freaking. Rocked. I am so not kidding. From her comical inner monologues to her determination in regard to what she was willing to accept in a relationship with Pete, Adele was a superb heroine. Now I have a feeling it might be tough for some readers to get past the fact that she and Pete were about fifteen years apart in age. Read More

really 3.5. Not bad but I found the male lead to be a bit insufferable at times.
One word to describe it is Steamy
This is the taste of romance book of the month. It a book club where a different author gives a free book which would be read and discussed at the end of the month
I usually have issues with books that have relationships with such a tremendous age gap but this one was done well enough.
I wasnt exactly blown away and it wasnt really a new idea but I did enjoy it
