Adele and Pete’s tale isn’t what I would have expected from the genre, but true to Kylie’s style she had me completely forgetting that I don’t like this particular trope (girl + daddy’s best friend).
I loved it and I am so happy that I pushed past my boundaries and gave ‘It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time’ a chance❤️
The story was written in Adele’s (heroine) POV and it switches back and forth between past and present. At first it was distracting, but it soon helped to build up the story and the anticipation of what happened then and what was happening in the now.
Adele wasn’t a shy teenage girl (in the past), and she definitely hasn’t grown out of her direct attitude. I loved her as a person, and her chemistry with Pete was suuuper hot🔥☄️💥
If you have read and enjoyed her Dive Bar series, then you will most definitely enjoy this one!

3.5 stars. The unexpected pregnancy did not work for me.
Another compulsively good read from Kylie Scott, so so easy to lose yourself in her work. Setting this standalone novel on the Sunshine Coast (my hometown) was a fun bonus, too.
I don't know what to say about this book. I absolutely enjoyed it. I can't remember the last time I breezed through a romance book this fast. I was sucked in from the start!
I loved these characters. I could feel their frustration and chemistry from a mile away. I wanted nothing more than for them to collide in a most delicious way. I knew when it happened it would be absolutely glorious and torturous at the same time. I can't say that I was wrong.
This book is full of push and pull. My heart clenched a handful of times. The rollercoaster I was excruciatingly rocky from the get go. I turned the pages, refusing to allow my eyes to fill and spill.
Being truthful, I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. It was a great surprise since I hadn't read one of Scott's books in a while. She really outdid herself with this book!

Rating: 3 stars
What I Liked: I erred between giving this 3 stars, because I liked a lot about it. I got into it so quickly - it was just so easy to read and the plot moved along at a really good pace. The plot itself was an interesting take on this trope, and I liked that.
I really liked the main character, Adele. I liked her honesty and how she stood up for herself, and told him when he was behaving poorly. I actually felt quite sorry for her -it felt like a lot of the other characters were still judging her for decisions she made when she was literally a teenager, and I was a bit irritated by the way Pete seemed to take her moving to Sydney after her failed seduction attempt as a sign that she was irresponsible and immature rather than a child fleeing an upsetting situation that she hadn’t meant to cause.
Pete was harder to like sometimes, mainly because he did behave in a way I found really annoying throughout much of the book -.
But their relationship was good. The dynamic was really entertaining, the chemistry was really hot, and the sex scenes were really good. Their bond, for most of the book, felt genuine and real, and I could feel the weight of their past friendship between them.
What I Didn’t: I wasn’t keen on the flashbacks, but that is a purely personal preference as I don’t really enjoy them. I could appreciate that they showed what Adele and Pete’s friendship had been like when she was a teenager, but I still wasn’t keen on them.
I found the ending a bit rushed.
Also - I’m normally a fan of plotlines, they’re a guilty pleasure of mine, but I wasn’t so keen on this one.
Overall: This was quite a fun book that I found really engaging and easy to read. There was nothing complicated about it and the problems I had with it I can forgive quite easily. I think it’s one I could see myself rereading too if I wanted something light.
Would I Recommend It?: Yes, if you want a dad’s best friend, age gap, sort-of-second-chance romance with a very slight enemies-to-lovers vibe.

Pete genuinely didn’t have romantic or sexual feelings for Adele until he met her again, when she was 25. I’ve read books like this in the past, or tried to read, where the romantic feelings begin before / when she is 18, and it creeps me out, so I was glad that Kylie Scott had him genuinely not see her as more than that until she was older.I really liked the main character, Adele. some of the ways he talked to Adele seemed really immature for someone who’s main issue with Adele seemed to be her immaturity. I actually thought she handled a lot of the situations thrown at her with more maturity than he did. One part that really stuck with me was when he became annoyed at her when she didn’t tell him she was going swimming - I got his worry, but when he later revealed it was because he assumed she’d gone back to Sydney, I was really confused. I didn’t really get how she’d behaved in a way in the story that suggested she was the kind of person who just ran off, or that she was unreliable. It felt odd.But their relationship was good. I was pleased after the pregnancy revelation that they were going to take things slow - I thought that was the right choice and I wanted to see Pete grovel a bit more. But once he made up his mind that he did love her things moved way, way too fast for me. The epilogue was cute, but I just didn’t feel as confident that Pete wasn’t going to suddenly change his mind again given how often he did it in the rest of the book. I didn’t feel certain of the fact he loved her by the end and I think it would have been better to give them more time to come to terms with what was happening. As it was, it felt a bit like the author wasn’t sure how to wrap things up.Also - I’m normally a fan of

Mainly because in other parts of the novel Adele had discussed wanting to go travelling and exploring but not having the money to do so - I had assumed at one point she might go travelling with Pete or something, so the move to her settling down with him and a baby and marriage when a lot of the book had signposted she wasn’t ready for that seemed a bit rushed.Overall: This was quite a fun book that I found really engaging and easy to read. The hero has a sort-of girlfriend for part of the book that he takes on dates in front of the heroine. They kiss briefly in one scene and they later split. The OW tries to win him back and has a couple of scenes talking to the heroine about the relationship.Spoiler
The heroine’s stepmother tries to set her up with an OM - he sends her flowers etc..Spoiler
The hero’s father is cold and distant, and disapproves of his son’s life choices. There’s a scene of confrontation between the two of them.
I like Kylie Scott's works but was disappointed in this one. Neither of the MCs were likeable, and both seemed immature.

Get ready for an interesting ride from Kylie Scott. She puts a new twist on her newest story and keeping her readers on the edge of the seats. I love that she told the story of an much older man with a younger woman. Adele and Pete’s story was told in such a great way that you didn’t ever feel like you didn’t know what was going on or what happened before. You got a look at the Adele and Pete 9 years ago and how they felt and how those feelings had evolved over the years even though they hadn’t seen one another. This is definitely a must read for any Kylie Scott fan.
Adele fell in love with her dad’s worker years ago and now 9 years later she is back for her dad’s wedding and forced to see Pete again. She wants to have back the relationship they had years ago, but unfortunately Pete is staying clear of Adele when he can. But when things go to far one night, and changes everything once again, they will have to face facts. But are they ready for that next step, or is Pete still unwillingly to admit that he wants a life with Adele. These two will have to navigate their way through some tough issues, but if they can, they will finally find what they have always wanted, each other.

Adele has returned home to be there when her father gets married. She left after what would be considered a difficult situation. So coming home has her feeling awkward. When she first met Pete, he was working for her father at his construction business. She was at the job site and bored so Pete took it upon himself to entertain her. Despite the age gap they developed a friendship, one that Adele thought was more than it was, since Pete sees her as a "kid". After one embarrassing moment witnessed by her dad, the only thing she could do was leave and stay gone for seven years. Coming back for her father's wedding she finds out she's staying at Pete's. Pete's now partner in her father's business and his best friend. Adele is all grown up and Pete knows he shouldn't act on something that has been brewing for years!
I loved the chemistry and angst this read provided. I read it in one sitting. It had a great fast pace that had me racing to the finish. I enjoying the flash back parts showing perspective from the past, which is when this chemistry started.
