Not his best but still good. I had hoped for a sequel to Hannibal after all these years but unfortunately I will have to wait and hope some more.

One creepy sick man and one clever but damaged woman. It’s Silence of the Lambs redux without the tension, fear, imagination, or revulsion. Not clever or wry. I couldn’t muster the interest to finish.
I'm not sure what people were expecting, but I was just really happy to see that Thomas Harris had a new book coming out. Well... happy is an understatement. Overjoyed is probably more accurate. I preordered this last December even before there was a cover or a blurb in sight. Yes I am a huge fan. Still, I wondered... what could this book be about? Would it be some Lecter-verse spinoff, or a separate story like Black Sunday? Turns out it's a little of both.
After finishing this I'm not convinced that these characters don't exist in the same reality as Lecter and Starling. Hans Peter just seems so much like a former patient of Hannibal's that I could feel him in the background. I guess you could also say that he is an alternate reality version of the good doctor. I was almost hoping for a cameo.
Regardless, I had very high expectations for this book (How could I not?)... and they were absolutely met. My favorite writers have one main thing in common - phenomenal characters. Harris might be the best at creating thrilling characters placed in hair raising circumstances and still making them feel absolutely real. His detail work and nuance in everything from exposition to action to dialogue to background just amazes me. He is able to touch on humor, pathos, horror and joy all in one paragraph... like turning a gem in a ray of sunlight to expose each separate facet as part of a whole. To me, he has been and still is an absolute master of fiction.
I guess since he is putting aside Hannibal and Clarice for now, he is bound to take some incoming from fans of those books. But I am really happy to have another Thomas Harris book on my shelf. In my opinion, he hasn't lost one ounce of his magic and this book measures up to his previous work quite well indeed. If you are a fan of dark, twisted thrillers with strong female protagonists, you will be hard pressed to find a better one than Cari Mora.

Made no sense what so ever. Awful book. I’m not sure what he was thinking when he wrote this
Run far away from this one. If ever there was a bomb in the book world this would be it. Weird names and a basic plot and not much else.
A fast read. Very violent, natch. Not very good but that didn’t bother me too much. The master’s best days are behind him, but you have to respect the creepiness.
