Predictable but really cute and sweet.

This book was absolutely adorable. It was such a sweet, feel-good read and I enjoyed it so much. The main characters were written so well and the supporting characters were just as brilliant. I am a sucker for friends to lovers and this one was very realistic and lovely. It wasn't just a holiday book, there was so much more going on and it made it very engaging!

Whew, this book is a SLOW BURN and was hard to get through at times. It started strong but became like watching a super cheesy Hallmark Christmas movie from 2013, one where it’s almost painful to watch because of the second hand embarrassment. Overall, it was okay but not my favorite holiday read.

There were moments I really enjoyed this book. I liked the Christmas moments, the topic of grief and even the romance was cute. What I didn’t too much care for was the cringey dialogue, slut-shaming, and the cattiness between Noel and Amber. It felt  like those moments overshadowed the good parts of the book. I could’ve gotten over the cringey dialogue if it wasn’t for the other things. The conflict was very annoying and totally unnecessary.

This book was such an amazing and refreshing read (or listen). Nick and Noel have been best friends for years. He was there for her when her parents died at 14, and yet, they’ve never crossed that line. When Nick is discharged from the Army, and moves home for good, will they finally become more than friends?

I loved the banter and the chemistry between Nick and Noel. You could really tell that they were best friends and the love they had for each other, even before they became more. I loved their banter and their back and forth. Did I want to scream, “just get kiss already?!” multiple times…yes I did. But that really just increased my love for this book.

The one downer point of this entire book is the ex girlfriend…she was just so rude. And I know Codi tried to get us to sympathize with her, but I just didn’t feel it.

Apart from this, this book was a fun and amazing read (listen). Both narrators were amazing, and really conveyed Nick and Noel’s emotions beautifully!

The character development in this book was great. The little spicy pieces were not a major theme but helped to develop the romance. There was one character designed to be hated and didn’t have much of a redemption arc. But the other major characters were understandable and likable. The Christmas theme was pretty minor, actually, so less overtly festive than a traditional Christmas romance. Overall it had some more complexity than usual Christmas rom coms and I liked it!

This was dumb.

I haven't seen the movie, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, but now I really want to. As I'm unable to draw comparisons, I can't say how similar it is.
Nick is home and discharged from the military. He returns expecting to marry his long-time girlfriend, but she has other ideas. Noel's current booty call is seeing someone else. Naturally, what these two best friends need is a fake relationship to avoid the sympathy and potential awkwardness around the exes.
Codi did an amazing job with both characters' back story and reasonings for why a fake relationship was necessary. I found that the emotional arc was smooth and I loved the MC's interactions together. I enjoyed the supporting cast and would love to revisit this group again in a future novel.
