Pretty easy to read, though might be graphic for some. A little twisty, with a lot of tension building throughout.

this book was so promising i’m so so sad 😭 i loved the atmosphere set up and i really cared about the characters throughout the whole thing

this suffered from the pretty little liars effect why are you introducing someone halfway through and telling me he’s bad and weird and scary
there was only once i was a little worried about him but it was so quickly resolved give me tension from the people i already cared so much about

like these people had such deep backstories which could lead them to do anything out of grief and terror

probably 90% of the way through something real happened that wasn’t them just like sitting down and drinking on the island

wtf was the shack in the woods???? wtf was this mysterious person who lived on the island??? i’ll never know

the island makes you crazy??? HOW !!! are you seeing things? are you having more violent thoughts throughout the day??? or are you just letting me know

it just didn’t follow through things would be revealed and i was like “ok”
jake and eliza have drugs!! okay?? these people brought enough bottles of wine for you all to drink 5 a day and you’re shocked they have MARIJUANA????

the ending did make me gasp a bit where was that throughout it all?? the story is built in the “before” segments of the book and nothing happens in the current day

i kept waiting but like all of the reveal at the end besides one part didn’t even matter because it was nothing they were just words they made me feel nothing!!

big spoiler:
LIKE WHAT WAS AMMA Trying TO TELL LUX WHEN THEY WERE DROWNING TOGETHER? WHY DID SHE LIE TO BRITTNEY??? WHAT DID BRITTNEY DO SO AMMA WOULD TELL EVERYONE THEY KNEW ELIZA

still 2.75 because the backstories were great, there was some hints of good foreshadowing, the setting was fun, and i loved Lux, Britt, Amma, and Eliza (Nico was an ass from page 5)

I liked this story and really any one where the girlies fight back. I liked how the story all came together, and I was really interested in the fictional island. Lux is a wild name for a character, though haha

Loved the creepy vibes from the get-go because I trusted not a single person who was introduced. The book was pretty fast-moving too so coupled with the creepiness, I was already hooked.

What threw me off though, was what happened afterwards on Meroe Island. I expected a dead body to be instantly found (or like within a few days) and they had to scramble to find out who did it and what was the motive lest they become the next victim. But this part was pretty slow-moving (the first body was discovered nearly 2 weeks later).

Some of the fights and conflicts were also confusing. I guess the author meant to make it such that it was the influence of the island that made them that way but because I didn’t trust anyone, I kinda just assumed they were inherently like that i.e the island didn’t play a part.

The “flashback” portions also felt unnecessary since the cliche big reveal scene in the last few chapters kind of summarised it all so I really didn’t appreciate the Before chapters, because they confused me.
