Honestly, there wasn’t much that was thrilling about this book…
It got off to a good start, a group of people sailing off to a deserted island together and encountering another couple already there. It’s the setup for what could be a really good story. But I felt like most of the book was just drama between the characters with a momentary possible twist that didn’t do anything. The only thrilling part was like the last 40 pages and even that wasn’t all that thrilling in my opinion.
I still got through the book pretty quickly though because I wanted to know what was going to happen but overall I was not that impressed with how the whole story went.

I'm feeling rather spoiled so far this year: everything I've read is good.

This was a solid 3.5 rounded up.

This was fun. An island escape, I mean atoll, or is it?

With warmer days not quite here yet, I enjoyed all the descriptions of sunny beaches, azure blue skies and seas.

A large dose of suspending disbelief is required, but it's so worth it for a bit of escapism in these troubled times.

H/t to karen for the new genre for books like this: Island Gothic.

DNF @ 53%. Not even sure what I just listened to. Maybe I’ll come back to a physical copy in the future.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for my ARC of Reckless Girls. I found myself unable to put down Rachel Hawkins’ latest book. The pages basically turned themselves.

A classic locked room mystery, only this time on a deserted, and reportedly cursed, island. With a tight cast of 7 characters, it was fun trying to to sort of how much I really knew about each person and how much they were all really capable of. There are some good twists, one which I guessed and another that slapped me in the face with “oh my gosh how did I not see this coming” ferocity.

I definitely recommend Reckless Girls for fellow murder mystery fans.

Really predictable, but I wonder if the audiobook gave away some of the twists.
