Such a sweet story about taking life in your own hands, and about finding love. And obviously I'm going to be a sucker for a story that shows such love for books and reading

Absolute perfection. A book about books--my favorite! I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrator is absolutely perfect for this book. I'm not a huge re-reader, but I will definitely listen to this again. <3

This book warms your heart, makes you laugh, and teaches an important message about how taking risks can better your life and the importance of escaping a routine, boring existence. It's a great story for book lovers and librarians. I simply loved it. Hard to believe it was written so long ago and it's so relevant to this day. Recommended reading for anyone!

This story is sweet and a bit silly. A comedy of errors. Helen is bold and decides on an adventure away from her brother and their farm and finds love too. The short story is full of literature and books, which only helps make it more delightful.

This was a weird little book, and for much of it I couldn't decide how I felt about it at all, but in the end I enjoyed it. It's cute, insightful, and surprisingly feminist for having been written by a male author in the early 1900s. Speaking of which, I spent the first half of the book thinking this was a contemporary book, because I misread something about it, and that contributed to my confusion and hesitance to like it, because it struck me as pretentious to write in this somewhat old-fashioned way in 2011 or whatever. Once I realized my error, I felt better about the whole thing, and I'll definitely have to check out Haunted Bookshop soon! :)

Aside from the more antiquated views of women/marriage, this is pretty much my ideal life.

Favorite quote:

“If this were a novel about some charming, slender, pansy-eyed girl, how differently I would have to describe the feelings with which I woke the next morning. But these being only a few pages from the life of a fat New England housewife, I must be candid. I woke feeling dull and sour.”
