Snappsy is just a regular alligator trying to get through a day, but the narrator is depicting them in a very poor light. I thought the book was funny, but it has an odd ending with the narrator.
For: readers wanting a book that subverts book formula expectations.
Possible red flags: some readers may view the narrator as a bully.

This book genuinely made me laugh out loud and I'm an adult. I loved Snappsy and the story was really a clever idea. I hope there are more Snappsy books to come!

SNAPPSY THE ALLIGATOR (DID NOT ASK TO BE IN THIS BOOK)
Written by Julie Falatko
Illustrated by Tim Miller
2016; 40 Pages
Viking Books for Young Readers
Genre: children's, picture book, humour
3 STARS
Snappsy is happily going along with his daily life until an annoying narrator starts to exaggerate his actions. Snappsy is not having any of that and it leads to a party that the narrator is not invited too. I enjoyed this funny story and liked the images. (Ages 3-6)

Fun, clever book. I did have to explain it a bit to my students. Perhaps I should have differentiated more in the voice of the narrator and Snappsy. They were a little confused.

Silly. Fourth wall breaking picture book. But the narrator is kind of an annoying bully. It turns out all right and there is some clever writing and art. But not good enough to make up for the framing of the story. 2.5 of 5.

I love books that make fun of themselves and their genres a little bit. This was really cute, and really silly, and I think parents would enjoy it as much as their kids.

Snappsy the Alligator just wanted a normal quiet day, until the Narrator showed up and started making his life sound boring and terrible! So they fight. And it's amazing.

Not only an unreliable narrator, but a needy one too! Of course, Snappsy steals the show by having the best come backs. Laughs abound in this fun book.
