Really tows the line between edgelord nonsense and goofiness, but in a way that's annoying and uninteresting rather than fun and engaging

That ending. That lead up to an iconic moment. Chills, watching the broken bat become physically broken, damn, worth the hype.

It's a tome of a set (especially considering it's only the first volume of three) and, perhaps partly due to that, the work is a bit inconsistent, rather varied, in style and substance from issue or issue-set to the next. There are several writers and artists compiled in these runs and, of course, various perspectives and styles within the collection(s). Overall, I like Bane. I remember the Bane era of the 90's fondly but revisiting and catching up with the stuff I'd missed back then is a little cumbersome. I long more for a graphic novel of Bane than the entire epoch of volumes with so many disconnected stories.

All in all, a good collection because it's so seemingly complete. And, of course, it's Batman vs Bane, a formidable foe if Batman ever had one, certainly a foe Batman deserves. Glad DC released these volumes to tie into the Dark Knight Rises film release. Gives me an opportunity to fill in gaps prior to watching the movie which will, by necessity, offer a very different Bane and much less story given the length of a typical movie.

4 stars. This was amazing! I absolutely loved it. One star off for me having to suffer through Jean Paul as Batman though. I hate that guy so much.

I've always found Bane to be an interesting villain and I've wanted to read more about him and this was perfect in that aspect. He's so fascinating. The way he planned everything out and broke Bruce down was interesting. Besides Bruce/Batman, Bane was the best part of this for me.

I also really enjoyed seeing all of the other villains that Bane let out of Arkham Asylum (Joker, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, The Ventriloquist, etc) and also didn't mind Robin which is shocking as I usually cannot stand Robin but he was actually helpful here instead of just being in the way.

Overall, this was brilliant and I really enjoyed it.

Minus Jean Paul. Seriously, fuck that guy.

I always remember when people say, "Batman isn't that great, because he's not a real superhero." Well I don't give a fuck that he can't shoot lasers out of his eyes or if he doesn't have telekinesis.

To me, Batman is great and interesting because he is human. Knightfall easily shows his flaws and how his greatest enemy can be himself. Throughout this volume, I found myself deep in dread and concern for Batman. The build-up to the brilliant moment on the cover was tense and emotional even despite my knowledge of the inevitable. A must-read for any Batman fan.
