I recognized a few of these from the excellent Netflix adaptation, but I still loved these horror shirts. My favorites include Tombs, The Window Next Door, The Strange Tale of the Tunnel, Bronze Statue, and The Bloody Story of Shirosuna.

So in this town… dead bodies transform into tomb- stones. Some trick of this area's uncanny climate? Now that i really look at them, on all the tomb- stones you can see traces of people and animals.

I have long meant to read some [a:Junji Ito|8483|Junji Ito|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1590271033p2/8483.jpg] so this anthology of horror stories seemed a good place to start. Knowing that he is highly respected in the worlds or manga and horror, I was expecting something good. What I discovered is that it is so much more than that, it is truly spectacular.

Twisted, mind-bending, gruesome in places, the stories challenge the horror genre and takes it to new places. The title story, 'Tombs', is one of the stand out tales and I also enjoyed 'The Strange Tale Of The Tunnel', which leans towards the science fiction.

A cracking collection and great introduction. 5 stars.
