A quick, solid read. I'm not sure it's a "thriller" as some reviewers have termed it, but Hamid certainly engages the reader and never lets you doubt that (although the novel is basically a close-to-flawless monologue) the true "action" will happen between the narrator and his audience.
I read this one for a class and quite enjoyed it! 4/5

A good concept that I didnt find to be well-executed.
Its awesome! Very very enthralling.
They way Mohsin Hamid has told the story via this book, I think he has taken story-telling to a new paradigm.
Brillantly set, mesmerisingly depicted & emotionally turbulent!

Really not sure what to think about this book. I think it will need to sit with me a while. One reviewer talked about the allegory with Erica and Underwood Samson (US) representing the West, while others talked about the unique narrative style -- a frame story and although not as common with today's fiction, not unusual - what struck me was how young Changez was and the intensity of Erica's grief. Hamid skillfully uses climatic tension although for me, the ending left me unsatisfactory but that's more about personal preference as I like things tied up for me. I think that the scene where Changez leaves his jacket simply to pass along some warmth, some kindness, which inadvertently causes a security concern sums up the world in which we now reside -- even an act of kindness is suspicious and we are afraid to help or accept help from others without fearing for our safety.
