The author that replaced Jack Higgins as my favourite author.
It is the fall of 2008, I have just fallen from a ladder and shattered my leg.
I am at the beginning of a three month ordeal of laying on my couch and watching the world go by my front window. Three months of non weight bearing, how am i going to do this.
Jim Butcher and Harry Dresdin is how. Hello urban fantasy and goodby dragging time.
In those three months i spent on the couch, I read everyone of the books in this series available at the time (10) as well as Butcher's spiderman one off.
I was hooked by chapter two and have never looked back.
I totally loved the way Harry was so nieve in the beginning and how he grows over the series of books.
If you are looking for a new spin on fantasy writing or are a fan of the urban fantasy genre,
buckle up, it's a hell of a ride.

These books are a lot of fun. If you like dark Urban Fantasy, then this is the series for you. Also, if you like super sarcastic main characters then you are gonna wanna pick this up as well.
That is actually my one complaint about these books. There are times while reading when Harry is awesome. I wish we could just sit down and hang out together so I could laugh at all his funny quips. Then there are times when I want to punch him in the face because I don't understand why you have to be such a sarcastic jerk. And I love sarcasm, so it's not like I'm sensitive to this kind of thing.
Other than that though this book was great. I was happy that Susan wasn't in this book. I don't hate her, but I'm just not her biggest fan. I like Murphy waaaaaaay better and she was actually in this book quite a bit. That makes me happy. You know why? Because deep down I hope that her and Dresden get together. Please. Just do it. For me?
Ahem.
Anyway, there were some big revelations about that we got to find out about Harry in this book. I continue to love the overall story much more than the mystery contained within each book. If it continues to open up more and become less of a "solve the mystery on to the next book" kind of series I will be quite a bit more invested.
Part of the revelations about Harry also go some revelations about Ebeneezer. I love that guy. He is the greatest. And I don't care what we learned about him in this book, he is still my guy.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I love it when I have trouble putting books down.

This was SO close to five star. The main factor stopping me is that the tone was very inconsistent. I don’t want to spoil, but read it and you’ll see what I mean. In the other books, there’s bits that feel pretty campy and corny, but it fits. Not this one. The campy stuff is contrasted by a dark and disturbing tone in different parts of the story. Came off super weird.
Itty bitty spoiler:
Why with the scene with Murphy’s pants. So unnecessary. I wanted to punch someone for that
