Reading this book gave me a different perspective in navigating friendships in a time in my life that I find it difficult balancing friendships and life as well as growing out of long time friendships and developing new ones.

Saying that, I did find that some perspectives in this book felt one sided at times and a bit harsh. I personal don’t agree with “You have to” statements in Wellness/self help books. I find them forceful and not allowing any other option or thoughts but that’s my personal opinion.

Over all a great book for anyone trying to navigate friendships, work, family, etc. Also understanding the importance of each of your friendships and what makes them special to your heart and which ones may not be serving you in the ways they once did.

Thoughts: Really enjoyed this book. The role of good friendships, how to be one, when to stay and when to go, the kindness of honest (and sometimes difficult) conversations as an adult is a topic we need more about. So much here I could relate to - and took so many notes.

I listen to Laura Tremaine’s podcast occasionally but was interested in this book about friendship. I like the idea of how different types of friends bring a different sort of joy and connection to your life, and reading this book made me so grateful for my own friends. It was fun to think about who in my life would fit in each of the seats she assigns to her Life Council, and I enjoyed her stories about the various friendships in her life. I listened to this on audio and felt like I was hearing an extended podcast episode since Laura Tremaine narrates it herself.

Every woman should read this book!

This is the book on friendships I have been wanting my whole adult life. The greatest gift of this book is that it gave me actual language to talk and think more critically about friendships - something that can seem so elusive and mysterious in our adult years.

What resonated deeply is the five friendship philosophies that I now claim as my own guiding light while I am making friends and maintaining friendships. This is a book I will go back to again and again. I want all my friends to read this!

It’s not that the book was bad, I just think calling this book advice or perspective is misleading. It’s more-so a woman recounting the meaningful relationship in her life, which I enjoyed, but I don’t feel that this book actually dives into how to apply her stories to our own lives or reveals anything particularly helpful. Read if you go into it as a book of essays about someone who is fortunate enough to surround themselves with wonderful women. Skip if you were looking for advice, perspective, or insight to apply to your own life.
