"Michael abrazó a Sarah.

I rated this book a 6 out of 10. This is definitely what I call a "bridge book" in the series. The author know where we started and where we want to be, but needs a book to bridge them together. I'm not saying filler, because there is actual content and important information; this book seems to exist to give the reader enough information to set up for the third book.

The pacing of this book is exactly like the previous in this series. Each chapter keeps pulling the reader to read "just one more chapter" by tagging an OMG-moment at the end.

Dashner does a really good job of painting a picture in your mind about the settings. Everything he describes is detailed enough to create the same image he has.

I love the fact that Michael isn't always the hero. He is definitely the main character, but Sarah and Bryson get their chances to shine as well. I was worried it would be similar to Harry Potter movies where Harry is practically the only one worth a lick (besides Hermionie) and everyone else is there for the ride. It seemed like it in the first book, but I like how Bryson shows up in this one.

They were secretly lifted and transported to someplace in Atlanta, so they would destroy the central VNS center. Wouldn't Agent Webber and the rest of the VNS know what the building represents when they first saw it? Wouldn't that be discussed? Also, how did it take so long for them to get there? The VNS knew where the trio was sent, so they should have gone to the building as soon as they realized the trio were gone.

This makes me feel that Webber was sabotaging the VNS on purpose. She stated herself that she doesn't trust the VNS. Taking them down might have been her next step. There is not a doubt in my mind that she is working with Kaine.

Ready for the final book in the series!! Going to start The Game of Lives soon!

I've encountered more story depth in a puddle. Save yourself the agony and stare at water for a few hours instead.

Honestly wasn't as enjoyable as the first book, but I kept reading it because I'm curious to see where it would go.

There were moments it felt like Dashner was making Michael forcibly stupid for the plot's sake, which was beyond annoying - most egregiously with Gabby, and honestly, why is Michael not questioning how she found him after he created a new identity, hot-footed it to another town, booked a hotel he barely stayed at before he changed his identity again and then moved to another hotel??? Like, this is so beyond suspicious. There's nothing implying she's nothing like the level of hacking of the Trifecta, so this was big blaring horns of suspicion. The vague hints at her father were an afterthought of things I'm side-eyeing, and I was waiting till the end of the book for one of these to be addressed, but nada.

If you can't tell, this is still annoying me one week after reading it (which is when I'm currently writing the review).

Also, the romance being built between Michael and Sarah is kinda ham-handed, so I'm not a fan. Full disclosure, i never really got around to reading his maze runner series beyond the Kill Order, so I can't tell if this is a feature of his writing or a bug for this series

The end was a surprise, but not necessarily in a good way like the first book. I'll read book 3, just to see how it ends, but I can't really say I've got my hopes up.

A lot of more depth into the world, and another pair of wicked twists near the end. One more book to go!
