I actually had no idea that Firefly Lane had a follow up! It was really sad to see what happens with these characters. The trauma of the death from the first book feels so real and realistic. But it’s also so hard to see these characters really just go through these intense things. I kind of struggled to get through it because of that.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had low expectations since the Great alone did not resonate with me, but even without reading firefly lane, I thoroughly enjoyed the writing and the characters. It’s unrealistic in its depiction of forgiveness but hey… it was nice to live in a world where mothers and daughters could heal so quickly.

The story of a family, both real and found, and how most of them handle and deal with the grief of losing someone, when an accident happens the family is once again on the verge of losing someone loved.
You have Tully the best friend, who was more of a sister, coping with losing her best friend, losing her career, and how to handle her depression and anxiety. But her coping mechanisms are most definitely not good for her. Her accident at the beginning has her reliving her past since losing her best friend and also her not having her mother in her life.
Johnny, the husband who is trying to figure out how to be a dad without his wife and how to handle the wild best friend, Tully, of his late wife.
Mara, the teenage daughter, coping with the loss of her mother, all the drama of teenage life, and self harm.
The family learns how to reach out for help, how to lean on each other, and how to move on.

Brilliant sequel to firefly lane. Very sad that Mara was such a difficult character, actually made me cry again.
