was I impressed by this book in particular? not really
there are pieces to love here: angsty powerful backstory, chemistry in spite of animosity with the broody dude, strong urban fantasy worldbuilding, a kickass lady with some attitude.
I just felt like this intro was a little lackluster. it felt a bit 2000s in gender politics which tends to give me an ick. idk, I don’t love when the cool warrior lady MC keeps having to defer to the powerful men and when she doesn’t, it’s a sign of her character flaw of being too rebellious? a bit patriarchal, no?
