Got hooked towards the end. The beginning was slow and took me a while to really get into the story. Really enjoyed it towards the end and very interested in continuing the series and see how exactly the romance is developed
A good friend recommended this book to me several years ago and I am so ashamed for only reading this now because it's so good.
I will surely read the rest of the series and am very excited about it!
didn't like the protagonist all that much, which for a book driven by the protagonist, means as a whole, the book becomes far less enjoyable. lowkey feels too OP, so it just adds more fuel to the fire.
the worldbuilding was fine, the balance of tech and magic was interesting. but overall the book itself didn't leave a lasting impression.

SO this being the third time reading this book I am still left with the feeling of what the hell is going on.
I remember the first time reading it and choosing not to continue with the series. The second time, a friend recommended it to me saying that it gets better in book 2 afterwards. I tried it again and it turned out to be true. So if you have given up on this book, push through. There is light after this tunnel.
This book is like many ideas in one book, and the authors had a hard time finding which thread to follow. It was frustrating in some parts and great in others. I liked the world but it was rather hard to understand. It is only because I have read the other books that I know a little more. I found the descriptions a little exhausting to read through and the writing was a little bit of a hindrance for me. This version also has more information at the back and Curran's POV towards the end. The problem is I find such things a little difficult because in the back of my head it means the authors did a terrible job explaining things in the book in an understandable manner.
I love Kate. She is one of my favourite characters ever. Her sarcasm and disregard for her life is quite a breath of fresh air. She rushes into things and makes mistakes. She is the reason I liked this book. Her secrets are why I keep coming back here. She fears relationships and I honestly live for that kind of thing in my books.
Curran on the other hand is not someone I'd like to meet or mess with. Thank goodness have a Kate to do that for me. I t will be interesting to see the how the dynamics change over the next books
Spoilers Ahead
The plot here is a little confusing. Kate barely answers anything for herself. What she lacks in doing investigative work she makes up for with her dedication to her job. I think the twist was rather interesting. I would never have suspected Bono. In fact, I also suspected Crest, the doctor that worked in the morgue. I did not hate him, he was just a little self absorbed and I'm glad Kate saw that though she went about things the wrong way.

Had trouble getting into it. Urban fantasy. Like that the magic and human electric technology switch each other off depending when magic surges. FMC feels too pretend badass. Like cliche sarcastic. Vampires are unique. They are kind of mindless creatures controlled by necromancies
