So far the least interesting of the series. Apparently I dislike dream sequences in books as I do in movies. Still like Andreas and Clare and the turn the overarching story has taken but this is by far the least interesting of the series.

I have a feeling we're heading to Alaska next.

It was not my favorite of the series but it was pivotal to the storyline as a whole.

This seemed to take way longer than needed to get to the end. Maybe audio would have been better.

Characters: Darkhaven's mate, former lover
World Building: Continuing world of series
Plot: overcoming overwhelming internal power, further discovery of ongoing conspiracy
Sex: medium
Read another: yes

This series is definitely getting stronger.

I'm glad it wasn't a sad ending... But at the same time...that was too conveniently positive. Hmmm

This book seemed kind of slow and there was just something about Claire that kept me from really getting into her character.

Another hot read in the Midnight Breed series. This is Andreas and Claire's story. I think the order needs some Minions of their own.

After finishing Veil of Midnight and thoroughly enjoying it, I was looking forward to reading Ashes of Midnight. However, I thought it was astoundingly bad. It was so bad, that I consider it to be the worst book I've finished so far this year. There was no saving grace to this story at all. Claire had to be dumbest person alive. The things she said and did were absolutely ridiculous. I mean, seriously, her mate had everyone in Andrea's Darkhaven murdered and she couldn't seem to grasp why he might want revenge. I'm sad to say that Andreas wasn't much better. He was so consumed by his rage, he couldn't see anything else. Their romance was anemic and there was way too much angst going on, especially concerning Andrea's ability. The storyline did progress, but I stopped caring. I highly doubt I will continue with this series as I no longer have any interest in what happens in Adrian's world.

I really wanted to say "this is my favorite so far." Lara Adrian's lore and world is engaging and her male characters are enjoyable, if a little too tormented for my liking. Even with all that said, these reads would be quite enjoyable if it weren't for the fact that nearly every book has the plots hinging on some piece of stupidity by the heroine. Ashes of Midnight is no exception to this apparent Adrian plot rule. The notion that the hero and heroine waited so long to be together is, unto itself, a bittersweet torment to be worked. But making the heroine oblivious to her mate's evil of 30 or more years was impossible to swallow. At every turn the female does the most imbecilic move and it's always because she is upset. This seems to be a theme for Ms. Adrian. The female gets upset and then does the stupidest possible thing to do, justified by being upset. This series wants to be good, it tries to be good, but I haven't met a female in the books I can respect yet. I'm still hoping.
