"What is better? To accept the horror presented before you or search for a way out?"

Love a haunted house book, especially when then house plays a role as a character. Enjoyed the underlying commentary about late stage capitalism and homeownership, as well as the relationship narrative. Parts were genuinely creepy. What didn’t work for me was the flat prose. It felt very “he said this, I did this.” The world building wasn’t there for me. Also a little confused about the Rolf storyline. Overall it was a little too ambitious feeling, but still delivered on the haunted house story I wanted.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like this before. Really well written and pretty unsettling.

Unlikeable annoying characters, stopped caring about what was happening to them pretty early. There is a way to write stories about unsympathetic characters that are still interesting and compelling stories, but you have to give the reader SOME reason to keep turning the pages.

Female narrator (there's was a male and female narrator for each of the MC) has an accent that I personally find unlistenable (absolutely not her fault and she's a fine narrator otherwise, so this is 100% a personal tic of my brain and others may have no issue).
