No character development, terrible dialogue, clunky writing, predictable, a chore to read.

Okay y’all, when I first saw things about this book circulating, I knew I had to read it. It was just so dang intriguing to me!
This is my first @lizajamesauthor book AND my first FF book. I have to say, I think this was an amazing book to pop those cherries!
@lizajamesauthor did such an incredible job with this book! It was SO dark, SO steamy, and SO captivating!
Thank you so much for letting me read this book Liza! If you guys like taboo, dark, FF romances, go read this one! I truly don’t think you will regret it!

Like so many other reviewers, I will note that this is my first FF romance. Because of this, I had no clue if this was gonna be something that I struggled with or if my horizons were ready to be expanded. Luckily, it was the latter, and now I am just absolutely SHOOK.
Enthralled from the very beginning, I literally got no sleep. I couldn’t step away, couldn’t drag myself to bed until I saw this ride to the end.
Aura was such a relatable character. Sheltered by her upbringing, trying to explore new facets of the world, she reminded me so much of myself, and I couldn’t stop seeing the similarities.
And Ruby. My goodness, did she drag me into the darkness and play with me like I was dinner on the table that the kids can’t be bothered with.
I already knew I was into James’ writing style, and she continues to solidify that I’ve made a good choice in devouring everything she puts out.
I don’t know if I’ll ever get enough.

Oh, and in case I didn’t make myself clear here, relieve yourself of the restraint holding you back and dive into this world headfirst. No regrets.

I would say more like a 2.5, but I will round it to 3. This book just lacked substance and an actual connection between the two heroines. I did not feel their connection or chemistry. The author just told us about their instant "vibe." I needed more.

Everything thing was pretty obvious that were the big reveals in this book. I love dark romance, so the dark subject matter doesn't bother me. However, both of the characters had way too much damage. It felt like it was put in for shock value.

I was honestly bored and found myself skimming. That is never a good sign. The srx scenes also bored me. Like I have said in previous reviews, I'm just not into degradation kink. The way Ruby would degrade Aura just turned me off. I would have preferred sweetness from them since we have to deal with so much violence and sexual assault in other scenes.

TW: Rape, incest, cult, cheating, branding, excessive drugs, drugging of children, grooming, violence, etc.

actually only halfway through the book and i’d say im enjoying the book decently but FUCK the editor needs to be fired. i just read the word “doesn’t” typed like “doesn>t” and at one point there was a # for no reason and random sentences don’t make sense unless you fix them in your head. super unprofessional and distracting.

I have had a full day to think about what I wanted to say for this book and I am still speechless.

This was absolute perfection!

And completely filled with angst. At every turn on the page, I was filled to the brim with anxiety on where this cult was and when they were going to show up!

IMPORTANT: CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS! THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE AND NOT SUITABLE FOR ALL READERS!

But if you love dark romance with all your heart I highly recommend this book. Aura and Ruby give me life and pull strength from each other to be what the other needs to survive!

Filled with :
Angst
Religious Cults
Sapphic Romance (Female X Female)

and all the spice.

This is a must read! Especially for pride month!
