The story is fine and can be interesting at times but overall I didn’t really like it. Sure it’s realistic for the time but the characters are too stereotypical and the storytelling feels lazy.

The characters aren’t very likable to me. There wasn’t a lot of character development and the dialogue was poorly written at times. Maybe there’s better character development in the future for the trilogy but I will not read those

Dont even get me started on how SEXIST it is because oh my god (!!) and the homophobia in this book. It feels like a handbook on toxic masculinity. The thing is the book is written in third person and it’s not through a certain characters pov so the author chooses to describe these people in this very weird/sexist way which makes it so wrong. There’s also violence against women in this book

I wish it came with some sort of guide for all the characters because there was a lot of people to keep track of and their relationships

I participated in a readalong for this book with other Swedish bookstagrammers and the publisher (my bookstagram user is @sofiaslibraryy)

If you're a fan of Godfather style Mafia style crime fiction this one is a fine pick up.

Goodfellas

Good, fast-paced read with lots of action and great characters. I wanted to give 4.5 stars, but rounded up to 5. It was a good book, but it didn't take my breath away. I'm looking forward to reading the next 2 books in the trilogy.
slow-paced

I got this at my library and read 4 or 5 chapters, but then have it back. It's really well written and the central characters are richly drawn, but I just can't bring myself to spend time in this criminal world when I know violence is coming. There's enough criminality and violence in the real world. Maybe in a few years, if our society can heal a little.

intense and smart

I won this via Goodreads giveaway for my honest review…I loved this character and the gritty mob turf war between the Rhode Island Irish and Italians. Hope Danny’s mother gets more time in books 2&3.

The mafia soap opera
