Can always count on a great read from Winslow. Great pace, great plot from start to finish.
At this point I'm more irritated at Winslow's writing skills above all.
It's a mob book, some of the characters seem pretty similar but seemed very similar story structure to the godfather movie
Don Winslow is so good at setting up two groups of characters against each other and then providing us with endless possibilities of double-crosses, alternative endings, moral dilemmas and ulterior motives. This was no different. Took me a minute to wrap my mind around the possibility of a Rhode Island mob, but once I did I was in. If I have one complaint is that the women in this book were so two-dimensional. Even the words they said were so lifeless. Which is ironic because so much of the plot revolves around women as possessions. (OK maybe that is not at all ironic :P )
Like a James Ellroy novel with Mark Wahlberg’s accent.
Stunning novel with great characters, loads of action and a tried and tested plot. I really enjoyed this novel which is only my second by this author however I can not wait to read more and look forward to his other books.
I would liken this author to Dennis Lehane who is another great story teller in my opinion. Could not get through this book fast enough!

Great book that I would not usually read. It is about a mafia war in RI.

Abandoned around a third of the way through. Was expecting so much more after all the rave reviews, but it feels very run-of-the-mill.
