funny lighthearted fast-paced

I’m so happy this book didn’t have any crazy angst crap in it, it was bad enough how Brooke was going on at the end of the book with the melodramatic, it’s my fault crap. I’d also have to say the dirty talk was a bonus

I liked Brooke and Bishop. It’s a cute story and there is some fun chaos thrown in. Low drama but it was enjoyable to watch them stumble around with their feelings.

(3.5)

I had just finished a book about pretending to be in a relationship and it turns into more, so when I started this I thought “oh, another one”.

I have to say this book was well written in the ice hockey department, the two main characters had instant “bed” chemistry and the other guys in the book left an impression (as in I’d like to know their story too!). Now Nanette was a crazy person from the get go, so I knew she’d be a problem. The last three chapters of the book seemed a bit rushed.

I received this ebook from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

I love a good hockey book!!

I was on the fence about how Sawyer Bennett could write hotter hockey than her first series but she’s done an amazing job with this one!! I loved this book from the beginning it is amazingly written and the characters play off each other very well.. my only complaint was it ended too quickly, maybe even a little abruptly.. but I know we won’t be disappointed with the series it’s already off to a great start.

Not quite as good as I'd hoped. And def way too many sex scenes for my taste and also the ending was really abrupt so ://

Anyone else reading a shit ton of romance novels during quarantine? My fantasy reads are giving me some serious side-eye as the TBR stack just piles up, but I just can’t resist the draw of saucy covers. *smolders*

I miss hockey. A lot. I miss the toothless smiles of the players. I miss ESPN articles where analysts are looking for any story that’ll get clicks, resulting in some amazing reporting around hockey players having such big butts that they can’t wear most jeans. (Seriously, it’s some BRILLIANT stuff. "It's an absolute nightmare between the quads and the glutes. The glutes especially, because it just throws off your waist. You have, like, a 48 waist with your ass, but without it, you're a 32. So what do you do?” Thanks for that visual, Max Domi. *waggles eyebrows*)

Getting back on track - Bishop is a great contemporary read. It has hockey, hockey players, a fake-to-real relationship and all the feels. I devoured this book in a couple hours, and I’m ready to get into the rest of the series. Bishop was a refreshing MC, a good guy at his core that doesn’t brood or play the ‘bad guy’ with his love interest, but loves dirty talk. All for it. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a light, engaging read (bonus points if you miss hockey)!

More like 3.5 (when will Goodreads finally give us the half star option?)

Romance is always what I turn to when I'm in a reading slump because when it's done right it tends to suck me in (sozz I had no better word in mind). That's what happened with this one.

The fake relationship trope is one of my favourites. And though I've read plenty of them, I really liked how this one turned out. The way it all played out in the end was rather surprising!

Brooke is an enjoyable and relatable main character. Also: athletes and a respectful male protagonist!!!

I’m happy to report that the super-hot hockey gods that Sawyer Bennett is known for in the Cold Fury series are just as hot and awesome in this series. I could not put this book down! Or, at least I didn’t want to. You know, work and real life got in the way. And I will admit, at one point I could foresee something terrible happening and had to put it down for a little while because by not reading further I could stall the thing from happening. (I’m not going to tell you if I was right or not because that would ruin it for you when you get to that point!)

Bishop is just such a nice guy. I know, calling a man a nice guy is like the kiss of death. But seriously, he’s a sweetie. From the beginning of his fake relationship with Brooke, he is on her about not putting all the blame on herself. He’s so considerate of her feelings and how things are affecting her even though the ruse has really put a damper on his social life. The relationship that grows as Bishop and Brooke spend more and more time together is so natural and organic. They have a beautiful connection.

My heart hurts for Brooke and her reasons for giving up a job she loved for a job she isn’t very thrilled with. What a wonderful woman she is, and such a caring daughter. I will admit, it made me dislike her dad a bit since he had to have known she gave up a lot for him. When Brooke, yet again, puts someone else’s well being ahead of her own so Bishop won’t have trouble with his job, it’s just like second nature to her. She’s definitely a mama bear type of nurturer.

The chemistry is off the charts with these two and they have both hot and touching love scenes in this story. Again, the relationship progresses so naturally it’s almost like you don’t even realize it’s happening.

We meet a few of the teammates in this story to pave the way for future books. It seems it may be a while before we get his story, but I cannot wait to learn more about Tacker. He had my heart from the very beginning. I have a feeling this series is going to be (somehow) even better than the Cold Fury series.
