I really liked this book. I will say, the blurb was misleading in the sense that it makes it seem as though Temi is the main character, but the book follows many points of view who get equal narration time, and the story isn't even really centred on Temi being able to invoke.
Other reviewers have described the book as being more Game of Thrones style, and I am inclined to agree - there is a big, overarching storyline and universe that all the characters fit into.
I found myself very gripped by the plot. It does take around 150 pages to settle into, being that there are so many different 'worlds' within the universe that the book looks into, but that is standard for epic fantasy. Around part 3/4 is when the plot really got interesting for me, and I enjoyed seeing the plotlines reach their peak and for things to start to come together.
While the multiple POVs are a useful writing tool for epic fantasies, I felt there were too many switches here. Either making the narration segments longer or removing some characters I felt would have made the story flow better - it felt like as soon as something got interesting in one POV, we would switch to some more boring build-up in another and all the anticipation and suspense would be lost and fall flat.
I will be purchasing the sequel, I think, but overall, an extremely promising start!

The Song of Legend’s Lost is an epic fantasy set in a land with a fascinating combination of ancestral and tech-based magic, truly formidable and ruthless antagonists (honestly, kind of scary!), and no shortage of drama or action.
It took me longer than I had expected to read this, and I’m glad I took my time. If I had just powered through without focusing closely, I would have found myself quickly lost. You do get a map of course, and a guide to the “Souls of Significance” which is helpful. As the main characters rotate from chapter to chapter, I was referencing it often as new people were introduced.
If you enjoy epic fantasy set in a world that isn’t handed to you on a platter but really makes you work to navigate the lands, magic, lore, and relationships between characters, give this a try. It was unique and refreshing, and the effort was worth it.
Thank you to Saga Press for the ARC!

This debut novel is a rich African inspired epic fantasy with some sci-fi twists. It follows five POV characters as their paths twist and tangle in unimaginable ways. Both the world and the characters were so well developed that you couldn’t help but be sucked into the story.
I really loved that this was a queer normative world and that there was a wider variety of representation than gay and lesbian. I also loved the diversity of the POV characters, they represent various genders, ages, regions, social classes, and motivations. The class conflict between the rulers, warriors, and commoners also adds an additional layer of complexity to the story
This book is perfect for those that like emotionally charged stories, epic cinematic battles, and mysterious not cats. I know I can’t wait for the sequel because there is clearly still so much more of this story to discover.
