I didn’t know much about this book when I picked it up other than it was a recommendation from a friend but I’m glad I did! Catch and Kill was a eye opening read pulling back the curtain on Hollywood, the media and how sexual assault is handled. You get an insider look into how Ronan Forrow reported they story and the aftermath once it was published. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’ll leave this with a 5 out of 5 review!

Thinking I knew everything about this case, I couldn't put it down. Ronan managed to describe the different cases in a suspenseful way, but also with respect to the people affected.

I didn't plan reading this following Know My Name, but was an interesting juxtaposition on sexual assault. This books covers more the before of coming forward and proof, which the other gives you the story of going through with the trial. So while not planned, was actually a nice complement.
I wouldn't say Catch and Kill is the best written book ever, but the story is so good. What is so good is that the author kept fighting to tell the story of Harvey Weinstien's continued assault despite people in power trying to prevent it. I of course heard the allegations and happily saw him found guilty and actually given an appropriate sentence, instead of a slap on the hand, but I did not know the story had been kicking around for ages and that various news outlets had pursued it only to stop, given threats if they were to continue. Or how much espionage they used to thwart the story. Also how much NBC was involved and tried to block the story, but then also denies doing that. I was interested in parts I stopped to google a bunch of things - like whether some of those people still had jobs there, sadly they do. Makes you think of all the other stories that don't get told and the responsibility to have news not interfered with, which is nicely how the book ends.
The only part that didn't neatly fit well was the part which gives the book its title. There's a small segment on the National Enquirer and its relationship with Weinstien and Trump and killing stories, that while interesting, didn't quite get added in nicely. I don't think the title fits well either, that was a small part of it. NBC didn't purposely set out to catch and kill the Weinstien story, though it tried to do so in the end. It moreso is a story of abuse of power. Which I hope people continue to be willing to speak out against, and in doing so keep things in check.

This story was haunting. Even though I followed it all from the beginning of when it broke, the extent at which men lie for other men's behavior will never cease to anger me beyond description. I didn't know that this story was originally meant for NBC and they turned it down and tried to have it killed because of personal motivations with the higher-ups. And they say women are paranoid.....
