I really liked this book. The story is interesting and fascinating. It gets you hyped for the next instalment without making you feel like you want the story to move forward a lot faster. It takes its time with certain moments, which certainly define Uthreds character and jumps over parts, which would just lengthen the book unnecessarily. New characters are introduced, which seem to fit the overall story very well. I do not think that there was a lot of character development, especially concerning Uthred. However, I do not know how Uthred could change without the story having to drift from its overall path.
The only thing that I just cannot recommend enough, is to not read the books directly after watching the show. For me, it really made it harder to enjoy myself while reliving the same moments again... Maybe if that is not a problem for you then go for it, but if you want to embrace the story apart from the show then please just wait.
