This story makes no sense but the hot lesbians + motorcycle race aesthetic (rendered masterfully by amazing Babs Tarr) is raaaaad
I received a free copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways!
And I'm so glad I did! It's an awesome start to a series- beautiful visuals, tight dialogue, and a swiftly progressing plot. I will definitely be following Motor Crush!

Art & Action ★★★★☆
Plot ★☆☆☆☆
Like, what was even happening in this book. It was like the writers couldn't figure out how to resolve a plotline, so instead they just raised the stakes, again and again and again. The story at the end of this volume is completely unrecognizable from the beginning, and I still have no idea what's going on. Sorry, but I won't be subscribing to this one.

Read this volume if you want to read awesome comics. If you don't then?? stay away from it, I guess??? You might accidentally catch awesomeness from it through close contact, so.
Motor Crush follows the awesomely-named Domino Swift, a motorcycle racer in a futuristic world where all racing entertainment is controlled through the evil Coliseum. The biggest danger in the WGP racing world is crush, a technological drug that makes engines go faster (or potentially blowup). Dom has a secret — she races in illegal, highly dangerous street races to win crush. But the reason she needs the drug is much stranger than most...
God, I fucking loved this. This world is so cool (it looks cool? it sounds cool? it is cool??) and the pink-highlighted, pixeled (different than pixelated, you know what I mean) artwork was a wonderful fit. It exactly captured the sense of technological danger of the world, and also the elation you feel getting into it and discovering it. There were so many awesome side characters that each had unique designs to capture their personalities (from the other racers to Dom's dad and ex girlfriend), so it's as exciting visually as it is in terms of plot.
And the plot was gold. I was practically jumping up and down with each revelation about Dom's situation at the beginning, and then we got to Dom's complicated relationship with her ex-girlfriend and that was great too... gay racer girls, guys. It's so good. And then the plot twists! The stakes! The ending that just about killed me! (Not cool, guys, not cool. If I was going to take off a star it would be for subjecting me to that jaw-dropping ending. But I'm not taking off a star so it's cool. I just need to get issue #6 STAT.)
So in summary? Again: read if you love awesomeness, flashy techy worldbuilding, and action. It's like a combination of Six of Crows and the Joyride comics, which are two other awesome things. So Motor Crush is like... awesomeness squared.
