I snagged this on Audible when I saw it was included with Kindle Unlimited.

I don't know if I can summarize this and do it justice. I went in blind, found the multiple narrators confusing at first and then got the gist of what was going on. Once I did, I was fully invested! There were so many twists and turns to keep you guessing.

Plus that cover art. 😍 I mean come on.

A pretty solid thriller. The concept was unique and pretty implausible, but made for a good story! I liked the chapters in creepy Brockville. Halley was a frustrating FMC, I wish we got more Cat chapters. This book was repetitive at times and felt too long, but it did hold my attention and had a very diabolical villain! The epilogue was boring and unnecessary.

If you learned that your mother you thought died in a car accident didn't die that way but by a heinous crime, would you go searching for answers?

Halley learns the truth just after a big life change and after her dad has to have surgery. It's a big shock that takes her to Brockville, a very mysterious town with secrets and worse. The townspeople are very tight knit and her discoveries are immediately known... even to a person that seems obsessed with what Halley finds out.... and it becomes more dangerous as she gets closer to the truth.

I really thought that Halley was a great character. Her knowledge and smarts really get her far in this quest she has. There are some very tense moments. I loved the mystery perspective POV we get too.

Halley was so unlikable and so so stupid! For so long I though Cat and Halley were the same person because of the POVs. I don't even know if I want to read the next book because huh?

Things that don't make sense:
1. Why was the blood / DNA left at the crime scene never shown to be male / why did they just match it to Cat because she confessed?! If you in fact ran a test, it would not have matched with Cat!
2. Why was the dad so pressed for Halley not to find out the truth when he didn't either?
3. Why did Cat help take all of those women just to "get revenge for and protect Halley?" Did they not matter?
4. Why were Kater, the writing instructor, FBI agent, and the dr murdered? Pointless to do, he could have just took them and put them in the facility with the other women right?
5. What was the point of writing Halley's story in 3rd person but Cat's in 1st person?
6. How did Gray escape? Who slashed the tire? Did I miss this?
