This book was so similar to ACOTAR. The similarities were uncanny which explains why many people enjoy it so much on TT. If you like romantasy (more romance than fantasy this is it for you).

I found Wren to be a great flawed character with a giving heart that does not expect much from anyone. She is also lonely and unfortunately an alcoholic who is still in denial. She also has a great sense of humor.

Boreas is a king who does not care much for human life, as expected of a god or so it seems at first but we slowly get to know him. His life feels meaningless at first. He is a lonely god who has lost his family when they first overthrew the government that included his parents. He lost contact with his brothers when they were separated after assisting in overthrowing the said government. The brother he talks to only wants power for himself and is selfish. He is very dedicated to his job of giving judgement. His power slowly kills the forest and corrupts the souls that await his judgement.

The darkwalkers are under his jurisdiction but he has been loosing that off late and he is not so sure why that has been happening. The darkwalkers are escaping into the human side of the Shade (any blood can strengthen it, hers is just more potent as she is as she is married to him)and he has no idea why and he cannot control where they go. He hides a lot and it takes a lot for the two to even find a common ground to talk and not hate each other.

I love that this was a slow burn romance (they kiss at the 50%)and they get together at the 70% mark. Their development from enemies to reluctant friends (when they go to the Halloween Festival) to friends and then lovers was great to read. The attraction was always there from when they first met especially on Wren's side but she hated herself for even thinking it.

Let's see.....the similarities
- Both books starts with the younger sister hunting for the family who depend on her to do the hard work and take her for granted.
- Elora likes herbs so does Feyre's sister.
- Someone big and powerful (Tamlin/Boreas) comes and takes her away.
- The sister(s) does not or appear to not care about her as much as Wren/Feyre does.
- Feyre/Wren comes back only to find that life has move on.
- Feyre/Wren want to go back home after being taken by a powerful being but can't.
- Enemies to lovers in a beauty and the beast setting. Feyre/Wren is taken to world she has no idea what to expect from.
- A wall that is meant to separate the humans from the others that is weakening.

20% summary
Wren and Elora are sisters. Elora is the soft one. The one who would be traditionally a good wife. The book starts with Wren out hunting for food as she has been for the past 2 weeks. She manages to climb a tree to escape the Dark something and goes home. Unfortunately, the Frost King is there looking for a bride and chooses Elora because Wren does not apologize for spilling wine on his tunic. Wren drugs her sister and goes with the Frost King. Boreas.
She marries him, is thrown into a dungeon because she has tricked him. She goes to dinner later, drunk (she is an alcoholic) and meets Zephyrus, The West Wind. She is so drunk that she does not remember telling him that she likes to hunt when she is out with said brother. They make a deal. She gets a herb of sorts that drugs someone and she has to make sure that Boreas trys to call back his power.
She goes out with Boreas later and sees people who are are at the king because he is not protecting the land from the dark. She gives the Shade her blood because it is more potent since she has married Boreas. She manages to take the knife from him and surprise him but he takes it back. She regrets giving her blood it as she thinks she has strengthened him but

*I think she had no choice in the matter*
His fight with his brother and Zephyrus aka The Trickster almost looses his life.
At dinner three days later after overthinking things, she states that she is going to annoy him. She asks for a cake to be baked she eats 3 plates of food, lights the fire and asks him questions.
He asks her why she is not married and where she got the scar on her cheek from and it turns out she got it as she was out hunting for the first time.
She also notices brown soil on his hands and wonders where he got it from since this is all covered in snow. I suspect he went to visit his bros home to see if what his bro was saying is the truth or he was out gardening.

I still have questions like how did the shade help initially?

"The North Wind" by Alexandria Warwick delivers a captivating enemies-to-lovers romance set in a vividly crafted, icy world. Wren is a compelling protagonist, and her journey alongside the enigmatic North Wind builds tension and chemistry with every interaction. It's a truly engaging read for those who love a slow-burn connection.

While the pacing can occasionally be deliberate, the evolving relationship between Wren and the North Wind is the real payoff, revealing surprising depth beneath his icy exterior. Fans of mythology-inspired fantasy and enemies-to-lovers tropes will find this a solid read. Its a promising start to the series.

A very enjoyable read, but best to set aside expectations of “originality” or “rational main character decisions.” 😅
If Beauty and the Beast and Hades had a child, it would be this book. Some of the dialogue and scenes felt so familiar it was like they came straight out of a Disney movie—or The Odyssey. At one point, the FMC even asks about Cerberus (not by name).
The main character is incredibly stubborn and defiant—understandable to an extent, but sometimes just downright irrational. Then again, I didn’t make great decisions either back in the day… especially not with a bottle of wine in me. 🍷
The fight scenes were well done, but the plot had me thinking more than once: “This could’ve been so much simpler?!”
The books in this series seem to be standalones set in the same lore universe. I’m definitely curious about the others.
