I didn't like Wren at first. She was a little too much "not like the other girls," but her rude behavior and struggles with alcohol were interesting. As the book goes on, Wren is revealed to have more depth of character and she becomes less obnoxious.

I liked Boreas and his journey from a cold, frozen hearted ice king to an awkward softie. His character development was very well done.

The slow burn in this book is done very well. It takes time and effort for our heroes to let go of their hurts and inhibitions to come together. There are lots of little moments that show developing affection along the way. Wren is very stubborn, so it takes her a lot of work to come to terms with her feelings. That Wren and Boreas bond through their loneliness and hurt really worked for me.

I feel the weakening Shade/dark walker plot could have been resolved a little better, but the ending was not unsatisfactory to me. I also enjoyed the prose.

♡ Thank you to @sagapressbooks for the galley.

If you liked The North Wind, pick this one up: the love story of the third immortal brother, Notus, and Princess Sarai of Ammara.

This is a fast read with some light political maneuvering, an arranged marriage to join empires, a dysfunctional family, and a second chance romance.

I loved the desert setting which felt influenced by Arabian Nights! Blustery sand dunes, dry heat oasis under setting suns, and spice markets. This gave the book unique flavor distinct from the Norse winter setting of the North Wind, or the abbey of the West Wind.

I wasn’t a big fan of the labyrinth, which included an oddly timed steamy scene, but I did appreciate the use of music for healing. If you don’t like a plot reliant on keeping secrets from each other, you may get frustrated.

However, sometimes one needs a straightforward and predictable plot, a villain we love to hate, and a HEA. These you will find here. It was also really fun to have Wren and Boreas make a cameo!

Trigger warnings for suicide‼️

This book reminded me a lot of For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten in both the plot and style/pacing.
I am a little conflicted because I feel like Boreas' actions in the beginning (choking, dungeon, banishing her into the coldness) were glossed over and not addressed much afterwards. The way I will NOT forgive Zephyrus or read the book written about him bruhhhh why did I like his character at first,, 😔🤦‍♀️ Elora will never be forgiven, Elora when I get you Elora,,,, very confusing how they are twins when Elora is so different,  I guess their upbringing influenced a lot more than their genetics. Nature v nurture etc., etc.,

I really liked this storyline and world. I just didn’t like the FMC she was annoying, constantly lying, ungrateful and always blaming others for her mistakes. The MMC had depth and character to him. If a hot god 1000’s of years old stole me to marry me I… wouldn’t try to kill him 24/7. The FMC was always pushing his boundaries and didn’t respect his privacy AT ALL. Then got mad at him when he just reacted?
Overall I enjoyed the book and I’m excited to read the next in the series since it won’t have this stupid FMC.

Wow what a book to end my book slump! The entire book was well written from the world building to the character development to the fight scenes. There was only one chapter that I felt could've been skipped because the point was already driven home. The flow of the story was well paced and information was revealed in a non confusing manner. Basically this book defied all the reasons I've been in a book slump for the past couple months.
