It has a lot of parallels of other books and series, but turned out better than I thought. I enjoyed it.

This book was a cross over between a Beauty and the Beast retelling and a Hades & Persephone retelling, and honestly, it was pretty good! I think the world building was interesting, there was deep lore that could be explored in later books, and I think the characters had a nice enemies to lovers arc (even if Wren was a bit too reckless sometimes).

I look forward to the next book, and seeing if we will continue on the fairytale mixed with Greek myth crossovers!

Lack of effort put into world building. Not enough explanation of why things were they way they were, what caused the Shade, how was everything "fixed" in the end. Conveniently never talked about the human wives he kidnapped every 30 years, except that one who caused his grief. So many plot holes and unanswered questions which would have elevated this from a basic enemies to lovers fanfic to a rich, multi layered original romantasy.
