Love Fran.
This would’ve been funny when it was written. Now it’s a historical study of humor and NYC.
Fun, but not that amazing.

incredibly clever and witty. i so strongly disagree with so much of what lebowitz says in this, but the point isn’t to agree with her—it’s to enjoy the way she says things, which is kind of a fun change for me.

Couldn’t finish this book — it feels a little dated and snobby, and I wish there was more of Fran looking at herself the way that she jabs at other groups.

Fran Lebowitz on plants making their own food:
"Thus, since I have yet to detect the aroma of Fettuccine Alfredo emanating from a Boston fern, I do not consider And Generally Makes Its Own Food to be a trait of any consequence whatsoever. When you run across one that Generally Makes Its Own Money, give me a call."
Witty, even funny, at times, but pretty obnoxious at others. Her sentences have the tendency to hurt the eyes and even as I looked away a few times I still forced myself back with a heavy heart. I really just wanted the book to finish already. There are just so many long-winded, half-funny sentences that I can read before my brain starts contracting in the most awful manner. She's smart, it's obvious, but she goes on and on and nobody seems to want to stop her. I admit I was halfway through when I decided to stop and finish my Steinbeck book instead.
